Ma'am. Greatest difficult is using index finger for shadsruthi rishabham and shadsruthi dhaivatham. I am used to play it with middle finger, which doesn't sound good. I will have to start from scratch. [I am able to use index finger for kaishiki nishadam or saadharana gandharam in ragas like hindolam or charukesi. In those ragas, the next note is open notes or (close to it) and sa/ma for which index finger is trained]

Ramamoorthy H Namaskaram, We most probably use three fingers, index , middle and ring, and there are combinations like index-middle together, middle- ring together, three fingers together and three fingers split,this will do all the melaragas and janyaragas, but when you do with Gamaka aspect it changes, example..for sudhamadhyama do with index finger for Arabhi, middle for Bhairavi , ring for Mayamalavagoula .. Eventho we can say this generally ,in the same raga these three are applicable according the Gamaka which we want to apply, example sudhamadhyama of Kharaharapriya rmgrr,,,...ma with ring finger, rgm,,,, ma with index finger rgmpdn,d,,,... ma with middle finger.... I think this will help you, never think you are playing in a wrong way, all are good, only thing when you want to get more clear or different output , the way you apply the combinations changes, that should be understood and try to do by each student for better results...

Thank you ma'am for your kind words. I touched violin at 42. Have learned from two gurus in two places in four years. For last one year, I am in a place where I am unable to get a guru. So you are my guru right now. Your videos have helped me to re-look at my fingering in a different way. For example, I was struggling with "mapadapa (underscore)" in Sree Saraswathi Namosthute (Arabhi) pallavi sangathi. But after seeing you use middle finger for all these notes, I have changed my playing, It now sounds better. Thank you very much, Ma'am. Namaskarams.
