I used to watch Dustin's fish tanks when the channel was pretty new and "species sunday" was the exciting feature. I recently started helping out with fish tanks again and am glad to see Dustin still creating awesome content.

Hi Dustin. Can you explain the reasoning behind using old tank water in this new tank but not using the water from the fish bags? Seems to be the same poop water to me.
@g644603 жыл бұрын
The old tank water will contain some bacteria that is used to break down the ammonia while the bag of fish poop is just adding pure ammonia which is toxic to the fish. The idea is to have enough bacteria first hence the old tank water.
@Dustinsfishtanks3 жыл бұрын
@@g64460 Thats correct :) especially- just PURE FISH POOP....so adding way too much ammonia outta the gate is bad--- but water that has the bacteria that can break it down is the way to go

You have to go slow with the Cichlid tank….Whatever I say to put in there going to put in double which will crash the tank

You do realize existing tank water carries little to no beneficial bacteria right? It doesn’t exist in the water column. Your explanation made literally no sense. Cycled media would have been more beneficial for this than existing tank water. Ammonia spike is coming, don’t worry. Not here yet, but it will be Dosing this tank with prime and stability ED would be the key to detoxify ammonia and nitrite to keep fish safe while the “cycle” runs through
@Dustinsfishtanks2 жыл бұрын
I used cycled media and showed it in a tub in the video. And I disagree with using prime just to lower ammonia-‘let it go thorough. This tank is fine done this way, no fish lost- no ammonia
@kriscalvert5802 жыл бұрын
@@Dustinsfishtanks I never said to lower ammonia, I said to detoxify it while the cycle plays through to make it safe for the fish. Which yes, dosed daily does what it needs to
