I for one really appreciate the videoing and sharing of the skill and craftsmanship of this cutting and log placement marksmanship. This is really high-level and should inspire us all to get better. I like the way Reg says "we" cut down. I'm sure the other guys on the crew were also impressed. A Merry Christmas to All!!

yet another short but delightful foray into the work of a man whose venerable experience shines through in every deliberate move and decision. My instructor for CS31 worked with you back in the late 90's in the north of england.... "if you had a bitch of a tree to do, you called in Reg. then you tripled your groundworkers!"

Climbing past multi stem crotches that high up on a dead fir is so sketchy. I know it’s not always possible to take the whole crown if you don’t have a drop zone for it but that was precarious. You’re a pro Reg.

So cool seeing all the habitat way up there ! Being that I'm IL , USA most I see is raccoon poop and moss ! Lol I did see one of my white oaks , branches 10 inch thick is all ruffed up and debarked like a buck does to trees ? I do have Turkey and Turkey buzzards in my woodlot quite a bit . Great video Reg , Merry Christmas !👍

Brilliant work as always chap, just cracks on no fuss. Your videos are great dude, it’s refreshing to just see someone do their work and take pride and to not see the video turn into a pissing contest about who’s got the better gear and machines (which are no doubt on the tick). You’re a pro at what you do, keep posting your great work 👍

Great precision cutting
@spelunkerd2 жыл бұрын
How do you descend the spar between cuts? Do you spur down, leaving the backup line in place, risking the irritation of having to climb back up if it snags? Or do you rappel down on the long line to the next cut, then find a way to release the long line. Or, do you simply unhook the backup long line, spur down with the lanyard, and reattach the backup at the next station?
@Recoates2 жыл бұрын
I generally just spur down. If its a long way I might take the climb line off, if its short or thin Ill leave it in place and itll just slip down with me. Spurring down takes a lot less effort than spurring up. It just gets painful towards the end of the day

That last chunk looked taller than most trees around here, maybe its just the camera angle. Do you prefer a 200' single stem or the wide, multi-stem shorter trees?
@Recoates2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say prefer either. I just do what Im presented with. Physically, the tall conifers require a lot more strength and conditioning than shorter hardwoods. Perhaps psychologically too, especially if the tree is comprised or the wind gets up.

That last cut was very impressive. The size, the placement, the landing. Hey you might want to think about making that a career and start your own business. Btw, who makes that hand saw and how do you like it compared to say a Silky?
@Recoates2 жыл бұрын
Its Korean, I forget the brand. Got it from a regular tool store. The whole thing was cheaper than a silky replacement blade, and easily just as good.

On you last stem that you tipped..did you choose not to go deep on the undercut to save time and energy on the work involved in the big notch, or just for better control of a 40’ log with a wedge for safety?
