Which side should we build the "mountain ranges"? Left or right of pergola?
@LuckystrikeGFXer2 жыл бұрын
On the left side you could incorporate the large bowls into the design while on the right side you have more freedom on what to do. If you have something in mind to have a transition between the mountains and bowls then go for it, otherwise the right side is also fine.
@Cerriscapades2 жыл бұрын
Yeah area-wise the left side is larger. The strip on the right is a bit narrower. It only means I have a bit more freedom with the design on the left hand side, but otherwise either side is big enough to create mountains in.

Good Morning Chuck. Hope all is well with you and the family. I m waiting patiently waiting for your next content and wondering how the winter is going so far. Here in Northern California it’s been a cooler and windy summer than usual. Nice to see your mother in law care about your hard work and not letting them go to the waste side. Speaks volumes.

Hi Chuck, Do you want your designs along that fence to flow into each other, kind of seamlessly, or have defined ends from one to another? The right side would be best for 'defined spaces' with what you already started. Because with the bowls staged as they are, it finishes the very left of the mountain range. However the left side would work best for a 'flow on' design. As the bowls already there, would be 1 mountain side and 1/2 of a valley. Then continue the undulation... And the right side of the bowls is in line to flow and blend into the next design going that way. Also... if you prefer to finish that area you started with the head chopped echs, before moving further down the fence, then going to the left of the bowls makes sense. Also helping the decision.. which side provides the best environment for the Echeverias? Is there the same sun/shade to each side or different? Hope this is helpful ☺️🤔

Very good points. So to address your statements: 1. Yes I want them to flow seamlessly. My aim this time is to create one big design out of smaller units that flow to each other. 2. The whole fence is on the west side of the property, which means that the afternoon sun is blocked. They only get direct sunlight in the morning and noon. 3. The left side of the pergola is the middle of the west fence. The right side goes all the way up to the northern fence. I'm in the southern hemisphere so the north gets shaded due to the tilt. Basically a bit more sun on the left side than the right. 4. Unless I go all the way to the north fence (far right of the pergola) the plants will get pretty much the same amount of light.

Hello Chuck - good to see this, thanks! I'd be thinking about how the sunlight would fall on it & any significant shadows that might be cast. I'd probably go for whichever I thought best for the plants. I haven't really got my bearings about the layout of your garden yet but I quite like the idea of the height rising as it goes away from the house (so on the right side?). Whichever side you go for, it sounds like an exciting project - good luck! And I look forward to seeing more aeoniums too! 😊
@Cerriscapades2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! So if you're looking straight on at the fence, the left side is towards the south, while the right side is towards the north. That whole fence is the western fence. I might put up a crude drawing of the garden layout in the next video for a better view.
@The-Organised-Pianist2 жыл бұрын
@@Cerriscapades Thanks so much for explaining - yes, a simple drawing is a nice idea. Personally I do think I'd put it on the right, then, unless it will be so high that it will cast a problem shadow over anything you want to leave or put right at the end of the garden. But it's your garden - I await with interest! Thanks so much for all you've taught me on here about echeverias. It gave me so much more confidence to start. I've been very much enjoying growing them & have a 'sagitta' with 2 flower stalks at the mo.

oh nice sir chuck, you(/mother in law) were able to save a few of your seedlings wich is really awsome, also another question, im planning to make a garden bed here in the philippines that has uv sheet, what do you think can i put above it for extra protection to avoid them from being damaged by the sun and rain? is extra thin cloth or uv net fine enough?
