All episodes: • 1812. Napoleonic Wars ...
On 26th August, 1812, two huge armies were doing the last preparations to one of the bloodiest battle of the epoch near the village of Borodino, 124 kilometers away from Moscow. A quarter of million soldiers, over a thousand cannons. Here, near Borodino, the fate of all the military campaign, the fate of Moscow, the fate of all Russia was being decided.
With the first streak of dawn the drums roared and pipes sounded in the French and Russian camps. At about 5.30 a.m. over 100 French cannons started bombarding the positions of the Russian left flank where the Bagration flèches were located, while the first distracting attacks were held by Napoleon on the right flank.

This is very interesting and I will watch further episodes. I will say it is difficult when, each time a military leader is introduced for a battle, that person's full bio is given including background, big LATER campaigns, political intrigues, and their death. It is hard enough to focus on details of battle without this info. Their later events/death could be given at end of each episode. I'm also reading War & Peace & it is great to get a better sense of uniforms, artillery, fighting tactics, understand what a hussar is : ), and see key names (like Bagration) that come up there.

Fortunately, this is not a Hollywood action movie and this is the history of Russia. The names of the real heroes the saviors of the motherland should be in this story this gives them honor and respect after 2 centuries. The least we can do.

@@teltos6817 I am not saying not to include them or their names or their info. You’re not understanding or reading my comment. I’m valuing this documentary, I’m saying that it is great. I’m saying there is probably another way to include their later accomplishments or later life story, perhaps at the end of a segment. It can be hard when all such info is presented at once, amid the other events and timeline. I appreciate the context of their later contribution but consider not putting all the information in at once.

@@Elise10000 I think that the way they have done it is perfect. Most people would skip over the end segment if it just contains an 'appendix' like summary of the generals without proper context.

Anybody notice how peoples inhabiting regions within the largest land masses in the world have been the slowest to develop? In contrast, those inhabiting smaller land masses such as Europe for instance, tended to develop faster. France and Germany, both located within the relatively small European landmass, were so advanced that they posed a serious threat to Russia, much more backwards and occupying the much larger Asian land mass. Same goes for China, backwards in many ways, also located in the large Asian land mass and Japan, comparatively advanced, located within a relatively smaller group of islands.

when you say like that its sound (and it is) very simple but its much more complicated then that. I will recomend you to look Jared Dajmond in his book why societies colaps and guns, germa and steal.

maligjokica I saw Guns, Germs, and Steel and recall that it was mentioned that natives of some of the world's largest land masses such as Africa, North America, and South America tended to develop societies generally at a slower rate than those of the "Fertile Triangle" (Mediterranean Middle East) and Europe which happen to be relatively smaller land masses. A detailed explanation was also given. I know it's complicated, but geography seems to be a big factor in determining the rate of human development.

Because those countries with large land masses tended to be invaded often for their resources, leaving the population living in those large countries to have to rebuild their country from the ground up over and over again.

_"peoples inhabiting regions within the largest land masses in the world have been the slowest to develop? In contrast, those inhabiting smaller land masses such as Europe for instance, tended to develop faster."_ Wrong. It isn't always that way. Thousands of years ago, advanced civilizations exists in China, India, and middle east. People in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Persia, and India build great cities and colossal monuments thousands of years before the Greek and the Roman. In fact, European superiority is/was quite recent, in the last 300 or so years. Before that, even in Roman heyday, there were civilizations in the east that were as strong and as advanced as anything the west can offer. Of course today we have the US, and China (both of which inhabit "large landmasses") as world superpowers while European countries are merely regional powers.
