Lucinda was sentenced to be hanged with John Dempsey following their trial in the Deighton Hall on 16th March, 1835 before the Lord Chief Justice and the High Sheriff, James Hardy Eustace, for conspiring, aiding and assisting in the murder of Walter Sly, her husband, at the Ridge, Old Leighlin on 9th November, 1834.
The event included a reading of an extract of Lucinda and John’s trial from the play with a minute’s silence at 2:30pm on the exact anniversary of the public hanging of John Dempsey and Lucinda Sly - the last woman hanged in Carlow Gaol.
