Abounader was robbed. Twice. He had two take downs in the final 1:10 sec and neither one was awarded. Total bullshit. Gotta give it up to Nickal too because he stayed in there to capitalize, but both of Abounaders final attempts looked like clean 2 points each time. Especially the first one, but I thought he had the second one too. Once it was not awarded and the action just continued it was easy for Nickal to come out of it on top. Match almost could have been 7-7 at the end of regulation if you give Ab the takedown and Nickal the escape and then a second takedown and a reversal. Instead no takedowns awarded and action just continued right into Nickals hands where he could get an easy final 2. College wrestling is intense and these guys are incredibly skilled athletes.

Ok I'm totally new to watching college wrestling, but can someone explain to me how the ref attempted to give Nickal 2 for a definite non takedown, but didn't even consider giving Abounader credit for a takedown, despite nailing 2 in the final 1:30?? I'm an MMA fan so idk the rules to college wrestling yet. Is it a rule thing?

the ref made a too-quick call early, causing hesitation later on. with 1:30 left, he was late to call a takedown, as always Bo kept moving, and got away with one. with 1:27 left, the scramble continues and Nickal's in a bad spot, dangerously close to being TURNED, but there hasn't been a clean takedown. he catches a thigh in desperation. he has the instinct to climb from knee to ankle! and deny points that should rightly be called. Abounader deserved to win this one, but it still belongs on Nickal's highlight reel for the reasons above. Epic big ten match

I don’t think Abounader was robbed. At minute ten left, Abounader couldn’t get behind or turn Nickal keeping at a Neutral, and when he finally had it he couldn’t keep it for more than half a second with Nickal slipping under into what would be a position that could be either neutral or ground- which due to the “roll through” (using the technical term for too short of a time in position, not hinting at any actual roll) would cause it to remain at neutral. Nickal gave his arm to a hazardous position to reset and to prevent Abounader from getting around, and Abounader should have gone for the three quarter to score. Second one Nickal kept him from stepping over which keeps position at Neutral. Even if Abounader had scored Nickal would have reversed it for 2. I fully agree with the calls, although I do agree at first sight they are close.

bot touch take down, if your opponent puts his hands on the mat in a way that has a 3-4 point stance as in any parts of your lower body (legs, knees, feet, toes) and any part of your upper body (hands and arms) in anyway that 3 parts are touching at one time it’s a takedown, but you have to be behind and in control, which Bo was not, overruling the takedown

ref made all the right calls, there’s absolutely no way any of those were takedowns as bad as you wanted them to be so technically sound, the control on abounader’s ankles are what gave bo the opportunity to scramble through those exchanges. takes a high level of precision and skill to pull this off ^this is coming from a hawkeye but giving credit where it’s due. hat’s off
