I have a 1975 Zoli. My barrel was dead so I removed the rifling. I'm working a load with .570 round balls. If you remove the 2 brass bands completely you don't have to pry the the breach against the stock. You lift the muzzle while gently pulling the barrel forward. These are well made rifles and the locks are extremely durable. Mine has a ash stock with beautiful figuring. They shoot a foot high at 50 yards and as they foul they start walking to the right. I have been shooting 40 rounds a day for the last 3 days. The first 3 shots are in a four inch group at 35 yards. After that you need to swab the barrel every 2 or 3 shots. I use it as a Fowler and have taken many grouse with it. I'm just messing around with rounds balls to see if I can hold a group. Good hunting my friend.

Today I was called to a local gun shop to evaluate some old rifles he had taken in, among them was an original Remington 1863 Zouave. Overall pretty good, the stock still has crisp cartouches, there is some rust on the barrel but it will probably clean up pretty well. There was even a spare nipple in the patchbox. I've asked the manager to let me know as soon as he arrives at a price. I have one of the Zoli replicas, they did a nice job on them but it's a shame they didn't use a darker walnut, Remington used good walnut on their rifles.

For defarbing your musket I recommend either Comers gun works or Lodgewood Manufacturing. Michael Comer did mine for $195.00 plus shipping and it looks amazing.

Was NOT used by the South and only used by the 11th New York. Most were unissued.

Most re-enactor units wont allow them. We shoot them in the North-South Skirmish Assoc.
