This Danish movie is pretty + good honest What people dont realize the Danish Army was actually slightly bigger than Prussia's at the time and on top of this Denmark had a real Navy, which Prussia mostly lacked. At the time Denmark was considered one of the preeminent military powers of Northern Europe. And they (thought) they had England as an ally and so that it would all be a cakewalk. So they recklessly provoked a war with Pussia by breaking the Schleswig treaty ( which stipulated they could not abuse the german population of that province and forced them to not speak german etc) and sent provocative missives to the Prussia King. But the Prussians had made quite a few improvements to the firepower of thier Army and the effectiveness of theirs leadership, so they were quite confident and did not mind a Danish attack at all since they ere eager to use their expensive military to improve their standing in Europe and among the german states. Also, as the Prussians expected, England abandoned the Danes, since they were the ones who broke the treaty and on top of that the Austrians sent generous help to the Prussians. The Danish movie is quite honest about all these things. Ultimately the war was decided by Prussian artillery which was quite superior and so more than made up that Denmark's military was slightly larger. Prussian and Austrian "Special Forces" (for the time) the Deaths head Hussars also contributed out of proportion to their numbers. On top of that the Prussians had the better generalship and staffs and so in the end it was a crushing defeat for the Danes. Denmark would never again be considered a powerful country in Europe.

Except you forgot one minor, VERY IMPORTANT POINT: Denmark wasnt at war with Prussia, Denmark was at war with the entire german confederation. That included basically all former HRE states still around and both Prussia and Austria. There was no realistic way Denmark could ever win that war in any scenario. Prussia was the one doing the main fighting, but they were basically only the first wave do to beeing the closest one. Austria could never allow Denmark to annex slesvig-holstein because ti would absolutely destroy their prestige in the german confederationa s leader and protector of all germans. And the danish naval advantage was literally meaningless. The german confederation states didnt have big navies for the last 1000 years and had no problem without them do to their trade beeing reliant on land routes. Also the territory in question and half of Denmark were perfectly accesible by land to any german confederation army with nothing the danish anvy could do. The germans could occupy all of Jutland with the danish fleet watching pointlessly. Dont overplay the danish strengths. They would have already lost the first slesvig war if it wasnt for the minor fact the german confederation was literally dealing with a major revolution in the middle of it (And Asutria literally nearly falling apart with the Hungarian revolt). Danish hebris after their first victory cost them dearly now when the german confederationw as actually able to focus on them and Denmark got crushed. Even if Britain helped Denmark the land power advantage would still easily be in favour of the german confederation and a victory would be the forgon conclusion. Britain didnt have a land army strong enough to oppose both Prussia and Austria on land in europe for a long time (and it would be literally go against the policy of non intervention of the status quo in europe if it isnt questioned) The only saving for Denmark would be an intervention by Russia or France on their side do to both having significant land armies to actually fight this war. But both were busy with other things and Denmark was the aggressor. And I propably dont have to point out what a huge oral boost to any german force it would have been if France joined the war, Napoleon was still a very fresh memory for a lot of people and France joining an aggressor against a german state would be propaganda suicide. Even the pro France states like Bavaria would have joined Prussia in that scenario.
@elizabethmiller7918

@@noobster4779 Your not wrong. Nonetheless the bulk of the fighting in this war was done by Prussian troops and most call it the Danish -Prussian war not the Danish-german war. But all your points are 100% correct however i was not going to go to that level on granularity in my post. I would have lost of a lot of folks with that.

In 1860 Prussias Army had roughly 160.000 man, excluding the small prussian navy. There was no time after the napoleonic wars where Denmark had more soldiers than Prussia. In peace-times Denmark had a land-army with 7.500 troops (excluding navy). In this war Denmark had 36.000 soldiers (excluding navy) fighting & 18.000 replacement and garrison-troops. Prussia (and Austria, not to forget them) sent 61.000 soldiers and additional 20.000 soldiers later (25% austrian troops). So please tell us where you got the knowledge of more than 160.000 danish soldiers in this time (so that the danish army could have been "slightly bigger" as you wrote...)...
