One of the best wind turbines is a huge steel plate facing the wind cut a hole in it and fit turbine the differential between pressure will drive it hard .this is why your front door slams when backdoor is open.😊😊😊

Excellent Idea, it's as near perfect efficiency as you can get considering that it's utilising the maximum amount of moving air without the huge amounts of leakage. Well done you for keeping it within its parameters and limits.

Thank you, Robert and guys in general for this one. I didn't build it yet. Watching the series how it reveal more and more ;). I'd love to see it as maglev solution in the pipe so that the flow the turn several of them one by one ;). Yes, the next one would turn slower, but, still efficient. And the more there is, the slower it could go. The question would be how many of them would make sense in what conditions. One more thing, I'm checking wind speeds here in Scotland Edinburgh to Glasgow area and we quite often have 6mph, not 3, 4. Not mentioning more rain LOL. So, this have even more sense here though. I'll be happy to build it and already working on a pure sine inverter and a battery charging circuit. Waiting on PCBs and components atm. I plan to do a whole series of episodes on those inverters and battery chargers.

All because the majority of teachers can't simply say I don't know which sometimes that is absolutely the right thing to say because you don't know and that is what inspires children especially to learn and that's what I feel like when I watch these videos, a child .it's wonderful, thank you all! This is great Rob👍 The reason it runs so easily is because torque wind pressure is applied quite evenly around entire surface and eliminates pressure differential vortexes from turbulent impedances which are wastefully inefficient! Nice work 👍

I think you really have something there Rob! Why not use wind not just from the top(darwin type) and sides, but also rising wind from heat from the bottom side. Make a tube from a miniature green house(holes near the bottom and tube out of top). Top of tube into your design, make the generator part slotted for airflow through. Have the rotor part with the hyperbolic cone on top and bottom. That way when there is little wind and you have sunlight, then the rising air would make it turn anyway. Just a thought for future experiments. Great video Rob!

I would implement this into wave generator. Thing of large pipe going into water and getting that smaller size and when waves raise the water in the pipe, the air gets blowed out and turning this turbine. Two turbines, one on the "input" side and another on "output" side. Possibly mounted on the same axle to get movement from both in and out "breathing". Imagine this kind of small generator(s) on the side or stern of liveaboard cruising boat. There's always small waves coming and going and boat rocking a little. Continuous small current coming in 24/7. Far better than wind turbine IMO.

@alexwild4350

@Eric Brennan - now that strikes me as a clever thought. Obviously for the totally linear minded folk out there it needs to be made of metal to meet the heat, but...would that heat affect the magnets ? Hmmm, interesting idea though.
@whatelseison8970
@whatelseison8970 Жыл бұрын
@@alexwild4350 Yeah, that's the other thing -- all permanent magnets have something called the Curie Point where they transition from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic, which means they lose their magnetization. Once they cool back down they can theoretically be remagnetized, but for NdFeB magnets it takes a special type of field coil called a Helmholtz coil to supply a strong field that's also highly uniform. I'd actually like to try it one day just out of curiosity.. Anyways, how about if you put your hot exhaust through a turbocharger and use the boost pressure to force in even more air. Then you can just spin a generator off the turbo shaft. Then you'd go from a rocket stove to a jet stove co-gen! Colin Furze has actually done it. Minus the generator bit.

I would think so

@@alexwild4350 Magnets need to stay below 140F, less is even better. Learned that from RC vehicle motors. High heat can also cause grease dropout of bearings.

Great vid Rob I love this design. Might I suggest that you make a tension mechanism for the rotor. Thrust bearings work best under tension and this will also make the rotor not wobble. Should be easy enough to do for example by using a opposing thrust or Tapered roller bearing on the underside and then tensioning the rotor with bolts.

It seems to me that if you could separate the center cone from the blades then you would gain efficiency by having to spin up less mass. Perhaps there is a way with maglev to let the outer ring spin while a detached center cone stays stationary.

Here's my idea: take 2 IBCs, one on top of the other, the top one upside down, oh, remove the bladders first. Make some vanes like the Ventum but upside down. make them out of 16 gauge sheet metal and put 4 sided (not circular) inside the IBC frames and use your cone on a truck alternator. There are 5 spaces in each IBC and you should be able to have 7 or 8 vanes. The bottom of the top IBC (it's upside down) to keep direct rain out. The vanes would be curved and held that way by the adjoining vanes, then would be fastened to the rails on the IBC with screws. Of course, the 2 IBCs would be bolted together. Then I would use 4 "T" stakes one on each corner and wire the bottom IBC to the "T" stakes driven into the ground to keep the wind from blowing it over. I live on a ridge and the prevailing wind is at 90 degrees to it. If installed on a roof you would need to fasten it down a different way.

great. The next step (adding the Darwin structure) is exactly what I started to think about some time ago and wanted to see. Another interesting experiment could be to to reverse the blades, so it sucks in the air (and the Darwin blades going up as well, ofc). The advantage is that the outgoing air doesn't block the wind.

Perfect for homes or apartment buildings to capture wind that is always flowing due to the structure itself. It would be good to do studies of wind flow around a building and place these in strategic places. And of course work on storage for the electricity, either a home battery or an electric vehicle. 5,000 EVs of 50 kWh batteries makes a virtual batter of 250 MWh using V2G.

I just viewed the tinkercad drawings and I was correct. When using this turbine as a traditional vawt the blades are used in the drag mode because the wind enters into the turbine from the sides and the blades have all their trailing edges pointed outwards. When used as a hawt or a vortex turbine then the blades are used in the lift mode because the fluid enters the turbine from the inside and goes out, utilizing the leading edges of the airfoils for lift mode.
