Can You Really Open A Lock With Just Bobby Pins?
Link To Subscribe➜ kzbin.info...
This video goes over a question many people ask themselves, can you actually pick a lock with a bobby pin??? As you can imagine, the answer is yes but it comes with its limitations. Bobby pins easily snap, provide less feedback, and are awkward to hold, all of these factors make them difficult to use. You can certainly get locks open but it does not mean it will be easy.
This video is broken down into the following parts”

HelpfulLockPicker I’ve been trying this on multiple locks and doors. It’s so hard! Few questions, how much tension to you put on the plug a little or a lot? Also how hard is it to raise a binding pin. I feel like I can detect some binding ones but either can’t get them to move up or idk... I can deff feel the springy ones why can’t I get this to work even once?
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 5 жыл бұрын
@@brapperdan what type of lock are you practicing on? I really feel that Kwikset locks are really great for someone to learn on because they are easy to open and have a wide-open keyway. If you haven't already you should also consider getting a cutaway lock so you can visualize what's going on. I typically use a moderate amount of tension which is a hard number to actually quantify and describe to someone. Tensioning is one of the most important aspects and also one of the hardest to learn and unfortunately this will all come with practice. But typically speaking the binder should not be extremely hard to lift up especially if you are working on a standard lock

HelpfulLockPicker I’ve been trying to open some different door locks the kind that are in the door knob of a relitivly low priced door knob from a home improvement store, and also I tried a fortress 30mm pad lock which I believe is just 3 or 4 pins. Maybe I’ll get some real picks and try those with a clear lock,

This helps explain what I've been doing wrong all these years. My girl friends hair kept getting caught up in the lock and I could never get the lock open. So as I understand it, you're supposed to take the bobby pins OUT of her hair BEFORE you pick the lock?
@HelpfulLockPicker

In most circumstances that would certainly help unless you are dealing with the Master Lock then I'm not sure if it would really make too much of a difference.

This is how I picked my first master#3. I hadn't ordered my pick set yet. The tensioner breaks. The metal used in bobby pins isn't made to hold tension. For an emergency it's good to know how to do it but a good pick is well worth the money. You only need a hook and one top of keyway and one bottom of key way tensioner. Those three things will open just about every residential use lock made

You just need to bend one into the shape of a shallow hook and make the tension wrench into an L shape. The hard part is to bend it so it is thick enough and not having it snap.

Picks and tension wrenches made from were some of the first homebrew tools I used before I got my first professional pick set and they work surprisingly well.However,you need to construct them from large bobby pins called “roller pins”(Like the ones below), and instead of bending over the end that is doubled over to make the tension wrench,you should snap one of the legs off(Leaving about an 1/8” remaining)and then bend the remaining portion outward to 90 degrees.As for the pick,do the same(Except bending the short end outwards)to create a handle,and as I believe someone else mentioned, make a small hook at the end by bending the tip widthwise(With pliers or the top of the keyhole)and then file the end to remove any sharp edges www.amazon.com/Scunci-Black-Roller-Pins-Pcs/dp/B001UO47A4

I used the wire like metal that's on those clamping paperclips. They're a lot harder than your standard paper clips. I fashioned one into a single pin lockpick using plyers, the wirecutter part of the plyers, and a file to make the pick narrow enough and to help make the tip lockpick shaped. Then I used the same tools to make a tension wrench. I locked my wallet and my keys in my house and I really didn't want to pay for a locksmith.

@@HelpfulLockPicker Thanks for providing the vid that inspired me to find something bobbypin like. Sure helps to have random crap in my car as a resource sometimes lol. In this vid there was a frame showing your actual lockpick to scale on my phone so I used that to generate a shape. The thickness was kinda hard to figure out and time consuming to file using trial and error. I had 2 4 pin locks in my car that I practiced on just to see I can actually open something before attempting the 5 pin lock on the front door. That 5 pin lock was too hard for my skill level so I went for the 4 pin lock on the garage door which was just like those locks I keep in my car. Then there was one more 5 pin lock to go through that I think I got just out of a stroke of luck. I copied my key and ordered a couple of lockpicks that I'm going to keep in my car, along with a bare bones set for my wallet. Getting locked out sucks. Anyways keep up the good videos. They really help people out!

I don’t think the point of using a Bobby pin is that they last a long time. It’s being able to open a lock in a pinch. Like you got locked up by a crazy person or a friend locked themselves out of their bike
