i'd do pretty much anything for some of these early 7 inch records and this is one of them, thanks for letting us hear it.

@videogamehistorian No, it is actually "Flee as a bird." Google that title and these lyrics will come up. It's an old hymn. Flee as a bird to your mountain, thou who art weary of sin; Go to the clear flowing fountain where you may wash and be clean.

I played it on a modern turntable with a light weight pickup. I also filtered out a little bit of the surface scratch because I thought that this made it a little easier to listen to. It is not an authentic period experience, but I do not have an appropriate 19th century gramophone to play it on.

Nice, thanks for posting! First thought it was a Japanese version of a Beatles song... :) More Berliners and early 7# on-line! Rolf

I play my old shellacs on a modern stereo. And the decayed surface (oft rubber !)... in one website, some cylinders have so much surface grinding that I can't hear any music, just roar !

Amazing. Just curious, what are you playing this on?

It's FREE as a Bird, sung by J. W. Myers (who also recorded cylinders). Typos were not rare on Berliner records.
