William F. Cody, better known as Buffalo Bill, was an iconic figure of the American West. A bison hunter, scout, and impresario, his life and persona became synonymous with the romanticized image of the frontier. While photographs of the man abound, only a limited amount of moving film footage featuring Buffalo Bill exists. These precious fragments offer tantalizing glimpses into the reality behind the myth, revealing both the man and the showman.

To think this was made when the Wild West was still very much a thing. Also to see real Native American Warriors, not just actors in a costume, that is truly special.

from the look of the horse this one is Duke. It was gifted to him from a general in the army if I recall the story correctly. He had a lot of horses over the years but Duke was with him towards the end of his life. It is beautiful to ee the connection between Mr. Cody and Duke. A rider has to trust hi his horse, and the horse his rider, these two had that bond. It is slo great to see indegiounas people from this people. Just wonderful all around to have these clips of moving film, no matter how brief.

If we all could time travel then I think on a time travel bucket list..the Buffalo bill Wild West Show would be one of the top 10 events to go and see. It's amazing to think how this was captured in the infancy of film and video. Even if it's just a few frames...it's still history for the whole world to share.

Probably not a good idea. There would be idiot people that would still attempt to find a way to change history no matter the consequences or how many times you tell them or they'll try communicating with Buffalo Bill interfering with our future & the future's future. 😅

I’m imagining the butterfly effect now. 1 person goes back in time to see this and it changes everything. You go and you stand in a place that originally someone else was going to stand in, they can’t stand there anymore so they stand somewhere else. This causes them to accidentally get muddy shoes which prevents them from going somewhere else they wanted to go and did go to originally, and it spirals from there.

By this time (1898) the Wild West was already long gone... This was all just a reenactment that he toured around the country doing. It was sorta like a touring TV Show. (In fact the word Television was only 2 years away.) Kids loved Cowboys and Indians and that continued well into the 1960's. By the late 1890's radio wave transmission, X-rays, electric cars, a huge record industry, movies, skyscrapers and lots more was already here.... ...and that includes Nintendo and IBM. Old time was going bye, bye really fast....

Is there videos like this one with people like: Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Calamity Jane, Sarah Bernhardt? For some of those wild west legends, it will be hard because cinema hadn't been invented yet at the time of Jesse James, Sitting Bull and Billy the kid

I have a big request to ask of you! Could you post on your channel at the same time as processed neural networks, colorized videos for unprocessed, black and white, faded and shabby ones. I understand that sometimes they are painful to watch, but every year it becomes more and more difficult to find videos that are close to the original. This worries me a little

How do we know it's not AI generated footage? It's probably not because I trust the people who own this page, but we re gonna get to a point where people will use AI tools to re-write history just for clicks and shares. That's a bit scary.

It was the white men who purposed destroyed the bison herds in order to drive the Native people from their lands by starving them out and the European settlers contributed by mindlessly hunting them. US Fish and Game estimates there were 30-60 million bison roaming the US when Europeans arrived. By 1890, there were less than 1000 bison left. The Native people respected the bisons and were careful not to over hunt and to use everything they could from the body. The Europeans didn’t.

Cody received the nickname "Buffalo Bill" after the American Civil War, when he had a contract to supply Kansas Pacific Railroad workers with buffalo (American bison) meat. Cody is purported to have killed 4,282 buffalo in eighteen months in 1867 and 1868.

There was plenty of bison around in his day, and after. The herd on Catalina Island of the California coast was left behind by a movie company in the 30s. There still are plenty of bison left.
