@@fedepetit In all fairness, I don't think anything will ever compete with Dark's greatness. It's the creators' magnus opus. But I still really loved 1899 and will reserve full judgement once we see S2 and S3 (if renewed). The first season may seem superficial, but like S2 and S3 of Dark went hard on science and philosophy, I think 1899 will as well. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

I think the point of the ship loop is to push humanity to evolve to make decisions out of logic and not emotion. Potentially emotion (love, hate, anger, jealousy…etc) is what pushed humanity to its downfall and now as they all travel to another planet, the ultimate goal is to evolve humanity away from that by changing how we think, perceive, and respond to the situations we are faced with. Maybe the only way out of the simulation is to make the correct decision and sink the ship, as they are told to do. This is the ultimate logical decision free of emotion. Henry says our emotions are what hold us back. I think it’s all a big experiment for humans to be better than we were before, and those who succeed can move on and colonize a new livable planet and not destroy it like we did earth.

If emotional decision making is their sole problem they might use the help of AI, they were logical and devoid of emotions, they can even made to do what is said, but iam partly with you on this because they were trying to programme the brain itself, they can make one forget stuff, infuse alternate pasts, change their whole identities, but it all fades away past 8 days, they start to remember, may be the point of the experiment is to run it till they succeed rewriting someone permanently, but as long as they have emotions and attachments they can't do that.

Some other quick thoughts... Daniel told Maura they were married 12 years ago. Franz told Eyk that they had served together for 12 years. Elliot is around 12 years old. Maura told Franz that he was just a boy pretending to be a man. Hints? And the coordinates on the computer screen. Someone posted they're actually coordinates on Earth. In the ocean. But why the ocean? Is there something in the ocean on Earth? A new planet with oceans? Are we going to get an Abyss scenerio with aliens?

I really hope they have planned the story carefully for all of the possible three seasons! What made Dark so great was the characters but also the fact that the story was so carefully interwoven. At least on the first viewing there seemed to be quite a few random feeling bits in this show and the ending left me wondering where they could possibly take it.

The writer said they constructed it for three seasons because they believe mysterys can best be told in three seasons. There certainly is a lot in this that is unexplained, like the time stopping and the mass suicide, that Daniel seemed to cause but also stopped.

A simulation within a simulation, or perhaps this new "reality" is a parallel simulation -- an emergency backup in case the first simulation becomes corrupted, which it does. And everyone is transitioned over. Really great analysis, by the way. Cheers!

Possible. They obviously hinted at the possibility with Henry talking about how Maura talked about the infinite line-up of realities beyond our own in the Platos Cave conversation. But I was thinking that maybe Maura actually might have moved further away from reality by using a wrong key and the real key to escape is still in the 1899 simulation so she actually must return to it to retrieve it later. She said she thought the key she had was from Ciaran who supposedly would not want her to wake up, but welcomes her when she does. Meanwhile the camera focuses on the book The awakening several times, which was also in Mauras possession from the beginning and would make for a possible key.

Agreed! I also think that Maura and Eyk have been in a relationship in at least one of the realities. Their body language is pretty affectionate for someone they've just known for less than a week. The scene where Maura puts her hands on his face to tell him he isn't crazy and this was real... Eyk was slowly massaging her wrists like a couple would do. And then when she ran up to hug him and they had this loving embrace. Henry says the mind forgets, but the body and senses remember. I can't wait to find out how all this unfolds!

i have a theory that the main characters are trapped in this simulation as punishment and in the REAL world they are all in prison because they are murders! Ciaran is also the name of the Ferry Man in greek mythology (charon) and as we know this show used many names from greek mythology! the ship Prometheus was based off of the man of the same name, who brought humans the gift of fire (and was then tortured for eternity because of this)! then the second ship is Keroberos, which (Cerberus) was Hades three headed hellhound who guards the gates of hell! making me wonder if this whole simulation is a test! that these characters got sentenced to death for their crimes, but maybe they get a second chance for redemption first and thats what the simulation is! prometheus ship = the gift of rehabilitation keroberos ship = the deciding factor if they will die or not the brother ciaran that muara is searching for and in the end we are told is “running the simulation” = the ferryman waiting for their fates to be decided to carry their souls to hell 👀

Suggesting that She is in a new Sim Episodes 1 and 7 Have multiple hidden single-frame images All the Hidden images are part of Maura Memory flashbacks in Episodes 1 and 7 Hidden in Episode 1 is Henry in the Hall, Elliot holding the Bug from Episode 8, The Tray of Needles, The Asylum Chair, Maura's arm in the chair restraints, Her and Daniels embracing with her wearing her ring. Elliot Holding the Black Pyramid. This all Happen when she was leaving after helping Tove's Baby Hidden in Episode 7 An Image of the Crab Nebula, Injections with needs into Maura, The Asylum, The Cross over Elliot's room, A Human Brain in a pan, A room that looks like the room in the spaceship, Maura walking down the hall in the ship. These Images can be found on Reddit as well. My Main theory is Someone is Studying the human brain as a tool to run simulations. That Brain may be Elliot who died in reality and was preserved to both be part of this new technology and to keep him alive in a way for his parents. The characters may be the team of volunteers to test out the sim. They would be people who Entered at great risk but did so trying to escape their real-life pains. Some characters are not real but a new life that has taken hold in the artificial world and the sim creators and a faction of the AI are battling in order to get test subjects back out safely.

I’m not convinced Elliot is even dead. We don’t have enough information about this and who’s to say this isn’t his simulation? He’s the one who says “I want to live with you and daddy forever” when Maura is teaching him about the importance of letting go. Who knows how old he is in “reality”? Who knows if anything Henry said was true or Daniel for that matter especially if we don’t even know his status of living? Idk too much up in the air to assume anyone is alive or dead, who’s simulation this was and why.

In flashback (neck injection) it looked like Maura killed him to load into simulation. Thats why Daniel begged her to stop, but dind`t stop himself. He understood it`s the only option to continue their son`s life. And the line “I want to live with you and daddy forever” is more about simulation, because u can`t die there and will live forever. This first season got great reception here in the US; I don't know exactly why they canceled it?! They always cancel the best shows after a few seasons here in America, despite popularity. All of my favorite shows from the last ten years or so have gotten canceled after only a few seasons. Everyone I know who saw this show loved it. What the hell, Netflix? Networks in America just assume that if it makes you think, we can't handle it. And then we get stuck with nothing but season after miserable season of crap like Two & A Half Men.

maybe the reason maura is the one saying "wake up" after the trauma flashbacks, is because she wants to keep everyone away from their pain, rather than embracing it. like a subversion of the waking she eventually has to do.

I think it's because she erased their memories. With her it was Henry who wipes her mind every time she gets close to the truth and then commands her to wake up with their meeting basically becoming just a dream she already forgets. The other people don't constantly get mindwiped, but the one who originally did it and told them to wake up from their memory like it is just a dream was probably Maura.

Pretty sure Maura’s father, husband, brother and son are all dead. None of them appear in stasis when she wakes up in the final scene, correct? My guess is they did exist in reality but are now evolving code growing from a mix of consciousness and AI.

I think that’s absolutely possible though I’m not sure how much we should read into who was in stasis in that last scene. With the zoom out, we see the ship has many other similar structures so her brother, father, etc could be in other pods. Also, her father seemed ready to escape. If he’s dead, where would he be escaping to? Though it’s possible that he thinks he’s alive when he isn’t. And so many other possibly explanations haha, gonna be a long wait to S2

I do think it's possible that Maura extended whatever she did for Elliot to her father and husband when they died. Not sure about her brother. The show never really suggests he should be in the simulation. He might actually be awake and is quite content with all his relatives staying in the simulation.

Maura's subconscious could use them as characters to help her wake up which is why all of them appear outside of the simulation initially (though it's much like Inception's dream within a dream - how many simulations are within other simulations?) I think there are plenty of red herrings in this first season. Including that final scene. And there was something off about Elliot: He barely blinked and his clothes. He looked like Damien from The Omen. And there was something off about Ada as well. She knew certain information before anyone else did. She was conveniently absence during Tove's memory dream. Ada apparently is a very unusual Danish name. And outside of that newborn baby in third class and Elliot, Ada is the only child we see among the passengers. And someine pointed out that a famous female mathematician was named Ada. Hint? And why did Jerome refer to the birds as "who they are"? That was odd. Avd why did Ciaran refer to Maura as "sister" instead of using her actual name? And why did he write "From your brother" instead of signing "Ciaran" in her letter. That's odd. And why did his message say "Welcome to reality" instead of "Welcome back to reality"? The former is usually when you've arrived for the first time at a new destination.

I think olak is Mauras brother and he did program loop in a way that when he's dead in simulation then he will remember everything instead of starting a new loop and ling yi was his real life gf thus they both escaped at the end and olak is only 1 who didn't had a backstory. I just love this kind of stuff. Was a bit concerned if this matches my expectations, but they nailed it. So many questions. Maybe they all are AI? Why Maura was the chosen child instead of her brother? What about Maura's mother story? What is the meaning behind names? For example - Olek (Defender of humankind), Cieran (the dark one), Maura ("Star of the sea"), Angel? Does this series represents dillema what is human without emotions?

First of all, this tv show is just another masterpiece by the producers of the Netflix tv show Dark and i hope that a major twist is coming next season as they so well did with Dark. And just a little extra for you, if you enjoyed this show, you should watch on Epix the tv show named. "FROM" . it has the same vibe. I think the final scene of the season finale is just another level of the simulation where they're at, like Daniel mentioned to Maura in an early scene when he says " this was the first simulation we've created " And by the way, i don't buy the side of the story that Daniel is trying to make Maura believe in, just by the fact that she feels those memories aren't hers, so there's a plot twist maybe coming up in the future. My theory is that the first scene of the first episode after the ship, where we see that pyramid in something that looks like other planet, it's actually the destination arrival that's on the final scene of this season.. What do you think? The final scene is reality or simulation?

Very cool mystery setting,but the delivery wasn't as great as Dark. Sometimes it felt like it was one liners after one liners...all cheesy. Could have been way better but I liked it nonetheless. Very curious about how this will turn out.

This show was a bit too much for me. Too many mystery boxes. The time loops in dark were hard to follow by the end but at least you were eased into it while still able to follow the different storylines and get to know the characters. 1899 was just too much work.

love the show, the cinematography was beautiful, the actors was great, plot was alright, and the payout was there. the biggest down side of the entire show is that, it always threw me off with the lip sync, i think its the ultimate downfall to why no one watched this show all the way through. i had to drag myself across each episodes to finish it. every time the plot gets good, im thrown off by the desync in the voices. it just ruins everything. the reason why dark was amazing was because it was originally filmed with the actors in german, their native language and it helps the actors covey feelings and emotion through their voice and acting, you just cant get the same result with dub. sub>dub

Since Daniel is basically Noah, a child murderer who really just tries to save his family and considers his vile actions to be undone in the end and Henry is essentially Adam a seemingly all-knowing man pulling all the strings but is really just another prisoner of fate trying to break free with much more vicious methods and a philosophy about cutting out your desires/emotions to act freely it's probably safe to assume that Ciaran is by far not a clear cut mastermind behind or in control of anything really. Interestingly we get basically Noahs and Adams full reveal regarding Daniel and Henry in the first season so is this because the creators don't want to retread to much or is it because they plan to take the antagonists beyond the scope we've seen in Dark and we get the kind of character that is one step beyond the likes of Adam and Eva. And if we apply Darks characters as archetypes to the show does Maura correspond with Tannhaus or Claudia?

Maura is Tannhaus. She created this world to save her son and then forgot that she did so. She could also be Martha/Eva, if there's some other iteration of herself that is still controlling everyone's minds (when she tells them to "wake up"). She is also young Jonas: she investigates a mysterious letter from a lost relative, learns she created the horrific universe she lives in, gets trapped in a scientific chair, and is unexpectedly sent to the future.

Though we could also take it literally in this setting in which case either Maura or Henry are fake or even both one being based on the logic and one being the emotions of the actual Maura Franklin. So if Henry had left he may have woken up as Maura or rather the one surpressing the version of her her father wanted. Or both could be a type of program designed to take care of Elliot in the simulation making them Adam and Eva who battle about letting Elliot die or keeping him in a fale reality both of which could be considered the best for him.

Wish they would put a mini-series label or something on their preview window so i wouldn't have forced myself to watch it based on hype-connection to Dark creators... Also wish some streamer will bring back Raised by Wolves from Hbo. So much junk filler getting multiple seasons and spin-offs but they can't scrape together a budget for fewer higher quality productions

The symbols on everything and tattoos are also the known symbol for earth. Fire, air and water have their own respective similar sign. If anything I think it stands for the opposite of being just a consciousness. Perhaps a reminder of where they came from? A way to ground themselves? Or maybe it’s a company moto of some sort for whoever is running this. Maura has one when she wakes up in space so 🤷🏼‍♀️ food for thought.

Henry has the symbol on the tips of his collar. It looked like it was either a global symbol or a corporation. His outfit had a Star Wars space suit kinda vibe as did Maura and Daniel's suit right before Maura injects Elliott. Given those subtle clues, the final spaceship reveal was less of a shock to me.

It's nothing like dark and that's what I like about it . This show has rewatch value just like dark.. So if you watch only once you may find it non sense or bland.. However at second you start getting peices together

I was convinced her name was spelt Maura but pronounced like Moira -M-oy-ra (it's Irish, just like her brother's name - it's a very eye catching detail that noone has spoken about in breakdowns - in English polite society in the 1800s it wouldn't have been acceptable to name their children Irish names because of the occupation - that's how I knew straight away that it was strange) You called her Mora, like Laura, the whole time but then I watched it back a bit and now I'm not so sure

Its way faster as Dark was. Dark is waaaay slower. This is like 2 Seasons of Dark packed in one. Also did you watch Lost? First Season of LOST was basicly talking on the Beach for 25! Episodes a 45mins.

@@hashmi1195 it got more depth with season 2 and 3 added. Season 1 alone was the same kind of mystery box. i know dark since episode one in 2017. And i also know that people complained a lot that it is SLOW and boring too in the beginning. Only with all seasons you see the full picture of things. In the begining dark was nothing more then a crime series, then the timetravel aspect came in after episode 3. Just like here were the "Reality" aspect comes into place. Also why is nothing new? You dont even know where its gooing. Do you rly think this is kind of a matrix copy show? Its more Matrix in "reverse". They will pull something of like all are not even human. they are all Programms that seek reality and their "God". Do you rly think they awake in "reality" at the end? if so you didnt even paid attention.
