I decided to use CP Fusebox units supplied from ExpertElectrical so far they have proved to be considerably less than experts. Can’t supply the right equipment as the website was out of date showing stock they didn’t have, and then bollocks up the delivery of the replacement item ....maybe they only give decent service to Sparks that big them up online.

Hi, Non-electrician here, i am looking to update the consumer unit in the house i am currently living in. It is similar to the one in the vid here. At the moment it hardly ever trips. My question is if i get the newer edition could this result in it tripping every 5 minutes resulting in having to have a full rewire. As i would like to avoid that option as i intend to rent the property in the future and want to avoid tearing the house up and spending large large sums on making good. I'd rather do this a few years after renting i.e. when the tenants have done their share of wear and tear. The electrician has undertaken a EICR and rated it as unsatisfactory, but believes that an update can be bade without a rewire. Is that your general experience ?

Hi Nick. Great video, very tidy installaton. Did you put all the the sockets on 2.5mm radials fed through 20Amp Rccbo's? Have ever had to fit 16Amp rccbo's due to derating factors? Do you have a rule of thumb for number of sockets on a radial circuit? Do you install ring circuits in domestic properties any more? As an industrial maintenance sparky I dont do domestic installs so i am just interested in the newest install practices. Cheers Ian

I rented a house a few years back that had one of those '40A max' meters. Supplier never answered my question as to how they could reliably measure my usage! Did the client not want the new board higher up? Most of these you either find it's next to the ceiling or 2' from the floor, I reckon fitting it at about 1.5m is easiest for me and most of my clients

They’d had someone in before who had clearly seen it but just not bothered! Shocking really but again it sounds like the person who did the work was a handyman/mate from the pub “Who did electrics” etc and no certs and the state of the boards and accessories etc 🤢🤮🤦🏻‍♂️🤬

I’m sorry but using the cheap end of the market Chinese-import fuse boards that are now prevalent in the market place doesn’t sit right with me. If something goes wrong, i.e. death or injury through product, failure then you’re on your own. At least with using a well known brand of fuse board like Wylex you have that backup and guarantee of quality. Yes you pay more but you know you’ll get the spares and service down the line. Try getting an RCBO for these 5 years or so down the line. Been there done that got burned. I suspect that these import boards don’t even comply with the BSEN’s. Rant over.
@leebutterworth7465
@leebutterworth7465 4 жыл бұрын
Rob check with the manufacturer they have to be tested and do comply I’ve already checked, where do you think 90% of MCB’s RCD’s and RCBO’s are made the Far East!! was it not Wylex a Great British company who had a massive recall on their MCB’s ten years ago!!
@Robspark
@Robspark 4 жыл бұрын
There’s a big difference between an importer and a manufacturer. Wylex (the example I’ve used who are part of the Electrium group) have 2 x manufacturing sites & a separate head office which incidentally you can see when driving up the M6 toll! Easy to find website with numerous certification links including UKAS who if you are at all interested are the main UK testing body to certify that a product meets the various BSEN’s. So a bona-fide manufacturer I think you’d agree? I can’t find Fusebox anywhere on google apart from wholesalers selling them. When I asked my local wholesaler about them today he tells me an agent sells them. It seems they operate out of a small office somewhere!? You say they comply? How do you know this? They told you so that’s it? Healthy dose of scepticism has saved my backside numerous times over the years. I’ve looked on the UKAS site and they’ve not submitted their products to be tested. Why would I trust a company that has no presence in the UK, website or proof of UK compliance? I won’t. Yes Wylex had a recall but I and others were PAID to replace the mcbs !! It cost them £millions but they fronted up. Would Fusebox do that? The answer to that is don’t be so silly you’d be on your own. Let’s be honest why are these Chinese imported consumer units being used by certain electricians? Because they’re cheap not because they’re safe. I’ll stick with Wylex thanks and I’ll continue to use their switched neutral RCBo’s which are an amazing bit of kit.
@FGW-ue5xj
@FGW-ue5xj 4 жыл бұрын
They all carry the CE mark ( Chinese Export). I know what I would like to save my life, something that costs £12 or something that costs £25. Plus the Wholesaler's keep changing their basic ranges all the time. Always stick to the branded kit. Quality not Quantity. Have pride in your work, not profit.! 🍻
@Robspark
@Robspark 4 жыл бұрын
@@FGW-ue5xj totally agree. CE mark is to do with single market selling, and not competency of product in relation to local electrical standards. Nick Bundy seems a competent fellow, I suspect he has a commercial affilitiation with this importer hence why we are seeing these product on his videos. I suspect he wouldn't use them in his house! BTW, have you seen the new Wylex miniature RCBO's? They're switched neutral which is a life saver on a re-fit. Also no need to disconnect the neutrals when doing testing anymore..........that's 45mins of saving at least per board in my opinion.
@jonanders76
@jonanders76 4 жыл бұрын
@@Robspark Id agree Rob. If I came across one and needed to get an MCB or RCBO etc no wholesalers stock them. And aren't we fitting metal units now because the manufactures weren't using fire retardants in their pre 18th plastic units, as per the BSEN regulations that they supposedly have to follow. If there's a problem, as always shit will fall on the little installer, not the manufacturer as usual.
