India's lower house of the Parliament, the Lok Sabha, has convened for the 18th time. Bhartiya Janata Party's Om Birla was elected as the Speak of the Lower House of Parliament. The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) had moved the motion in Parliament to elect a new Speaker for the Lower House. This was the first such election of its kind in decades. A lack of consensus between the NDA-alliance (led by Prime Minister Modi), and the INDIA bloc (led by Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi), was the reason behind this election within the Lok Sabha.
