Murudeshwar is a quiet and scenic location on the shore with beaches on three sides and land on the other site. The temple of Lord Murudeswar as explained by the locals is one of the five that has Atma Linga. Atma Linga was the one gifted to Ravana by Lord Shiva and as the story goes Ravana had asked a local to hold the linga so that he could have his bath and perform sandyavandana. But the little boy placed it on the ground and it split into 5 pieces. the other 4 are in nearby location like Gokarna, Gumta, Honnavar. The towering temple Gopuram has 20 floors and there is a lift that takes you upto the 18th floor.. The view from the 18th floor is truly amazing and a must experience for those travelling the west coast highway.
