My Dad was born in Aberdare in 1913….down the pit at 14 and walked to Coventry to find work in 1935 as an accident stopped him from going underground ever again. So holidays for me were always spent with relatives down there, usually in Penywaun. Lovely memories of walks ‘up the tip’ with my Uncle Dai and Welsh Corgi, Chum. No money, but we were rich in family who appreciated everything we did have. Thanks for posting this. 🤗

My grateful thanks, as I remember catching a train at the bottom of Cwmdare hill and using the top lines in Bwllfa Dare. All these images are from my childhood.

My mum was from Cwmaman,when on holiday staying with our grandparents we went to Aberdare shopping,.i remember a café with pinball machines in the corner.,.I think it was run by a Italian guy,.Stachis or something similar.
