1900s well revival | Saving Family History | Helping friends

This well has been out of commission since I met Russell I have hassled him a time or 2 about getting it back going.
Well step one was to replace the frame for the bucket.
Russell has seen the boards replaced 5 times or so in his lifetime and decided to fix it once and for all.
He got some pipe and fabricated a nice frame.
Lynzie and I helped him weld it all up and cemented into the ground.
This well kept his family alive since the early 1900s and we cant give up on it now!

Lots more to do but it will be fully operational soon! Next step is paint the poles. Hang the bucket. We have to repair all of the stone work. I also have to pull a little Russell and climb down into it and clean it out good. Every couple weeks we will try to make progress on it!

I am 72 years old. When I was a girl, everyone who lived outside of the city limits had wells like this one. There was nothing like using a rope on a pulley to pull a bucket of cold water up out of the well on a hot Summer’s day. We all drank out of the same dipper. Good memories.

My grandparents had a well across the road from their house and I had drank a many times from the dipper that hung on the side of the bucket and it never hurt me to drink the water from the well and yes I am glad I saw this it brought back memories from then and I am 70 years old now

Drew lynzie and Russell you've proven that the older generations have a history to restore with value. It just need a person who value the history and putting new life back into it. My great grandmother had a pull rope well also.had the hand gouard dipper and also a metal pail. A many time wringer washer done outside with water pulled from this well. I'm 69 and valued their way of life. Wonderful music with the video. Blessing

I quit smoking 2 years ago, this May, when I came down with bladder cancer. I started smoking when I was 15, am 72 now. I didn't know it, but you get bladder cancer from smoking cigarettes. Well, I continued smoking my good stuff, since it's legal in FL, but quit for good a couple of months ago in December, because I got weak and dizzy. I went into the hospital the 1st of Feb., looks like it's my blood now. Smoking can kill :)

I'd bet it is a hand-dug well, but if it was drilled, it was likely a spudder rig (percussion cable tools, not rotary).

David I wish I knew for certain and I will try to inquire further but what I do know is they dug at least 3 if not many more at the same time. There are 3 that I know of within 5 miles and they are all on different properties. All of them are about the same size and rocks are stacked the same. I was told they brought a big drill in and drilled them but I dont KNOW that to be true. Ill ask around and get any info I can before we film the next part of the well project!
