1907 Steam Wrecking Crane Fired Up for Nevada Railway Symposium Sept. 21, 2012

The Nevada Northern Railway Museum's Wrecking Crane "A" was exhibited under steam in Ely, Nevada, on Sept. 21, 2012 during the state's annual historical railway symposium, in Ely, Nevada. Phenomenal! We have a lot of old steam powered trams, cranes, etc near Snoqualmie. I always wanted to see one in action. Thank you for this!

There's a rail yard about 4 blocks from where I grew up. They were cleaning up a derailment back in the 60's. They just happened to be using a steam powered crane that was still in service. I feel so old knowing I saw one of those in action.

Does anyone know of any good resources for gear configurations and layouts for one of these? I mean the real nitty gritty technical inner workings. I'm thinking of recreating such a machine on a virtual scale, but i need to know what does what and how.

Great video but it's even better in person. Go if you can it's worth it. Take a walking tour. I don't know if it's still there accross from the Station they had a Bed and breakfast with a Bakery. I picked up two Pies and drove to my Sister's in Mapleton Utah. I got a trade for Dinner I brought Desert. 😁👍

I FIRED THE BOILER ON A 1939 MODEL AMERICAN STEAM GANTRY CRANE AT BETHLEHEM STEEL SHIPYARD IN BEAUMONT TEXAS, IT WAS A 50 TON CRANE OLD #3 VERY SOLID OLD RIG, IT HAD A 120 PSI UP RIGHT BOILER IN IT, VERY HOT IN THE SUMMER.

THAT OLD STEAM CRANE REMAINED IN SERVICE UNTIL1975 I DO BELIEVE, I ALSO OPERATED IT TOO, TRULY A FINE OLD RIG, BUILT BY AMERICAN HOIST AND DERRICK.

Would it be possible to report this with just the natural sound, no music?

We've made some upgrades to our audio equipment since this was made almost 4 years ago, and we use less music today than we did back then unless the native sound is unusable. So current and future projects have less music than this one, and I appreciate your comments.
