I first rode this elevator about 15 years ago. At the time, the operator told me it was still powered by the original huge Mazda lamp in the basement. A few years later, I rode it again, and asked about the Mazda lamp. The operator shook his head sadly, and said that it had been smashed when somebody unauthorized had run the elevator, and crash-landed it onto the Mazda lamp. That lamp had survived for nearly 100 years, but was no match for the stupidity of one human.
