Amazingly helpful thank you. Most Singer machines on KZbin are younger and I was struggling to find the same make. Successfully threaded and bobbed! Many thanks.

Yesterday, I put the WD40 in that hole that you mentioned and that I never saw before - because I did not know it was meant for oiling the stitch length button. I covered the big button and used a pair of pliers to turn it and it worked. After cleaning and oiling, this button can now be easily turned to modify the stitch length. Thank you so much for your very useful video; it helped me fixing the problem with my machine. It works so nicely now, I am delighted with it!

I know I'm late to the proverbial party but I just have to add a little piece of advice to your viewers. Please don't grab the bullet bobbin by the wire when pulling it out as this can bend it and cause damage to the bobbin. Instead, please use the little round push button located just at the foot of the bobbin as that's what it's for. you simply push down on it and it pops right up 😊 Hope this helps and THANK YOU for a wonderfully informative video.
@Moonwing7211 күн бұрын
This is a singer 27, they didn’t have a push button bobbin release button. Nor did the 28. They were an added feature in the updated 127/128 models. To get the bobbin out safely in 27/28’s you push down on the tip of the bobbin case and it will pop up.

Good lord! What an amazing tip. I have had my machine since I was a little girl and it has always been a crap shoot threading the bobbin. Thank you a million times!!!!

If you push down on the pointy part of the shuttle it raises the back of it up making it easy to remove from the machine. It's not only easier but there's no chance of damaging the shuttle's tension spring that way. :-)
@meganmills65452 жыл бұрын
@Peter Alexander Yes you can, but it can also get distorted when people make a habit of picking up the shuttle by the tension spring. One day, when the shuttle carrier isn't far enough forward, it'll distort the spring and the shuttle will stay put when someone pulls up on it confidently. They're not making any more of them so my recommendation is to look after the ones we've got. Especially when there's an easy alternative - which is the way that the Singer manuals also recommend - that you can use anyway.

Thank you so much for this video! My treadle has been out of commission for three years ever since I snapped a needle and couldn't get everything back together properly. This was exactly what I needed to see. Back up and sewing!!
@jmdenison3 жыл бұрын
tip for threading needles. do not snip except right before you thread the needle. do not touch the end of the thread or it may fray again. keep a small piece of white paper next to your sewing machine to see the hole easier. great video! also, use needles with the biggest hole you can get away with so you don't struggle with threading which is the most aggravating part. another helpful hint is each sewing machine needle has a groove in one side. slide the thread along this groove for a 1/4" or so to guide it right into the hole. you should be able to feel the groove in the side or your needle is worn out and should be replaced.

Thank you so much for this video. Those things that get the fabric moving forward are called ''feed-dogs''. In freemotion quilting, some say that they have to be off or down if you like but on this machine, there is no way we can put them down. Some others, on the contrary, prefer to leave them there. I did not try freemotion quilting yet on this machine. Another thing I can tell you about is the king of machine this is: it is a 28K. I am also using WD-40 to clean up and Singer oil to oil. I am going to watch your part-2 video now. Thank you very much for this one, threading is going to be easier now. Next thing to get this machine for my needs will be to loosen up that stitch length knob. I will put some WD-40 first and let it work for a few hours before using the pliers covered with a piece of fabric, like you suggested.

Thank you for the question and feedback. I hope you are able to do what you would like with your machine.
@scramblerman907 жыл бұрын
WD-40 does leave a residue but I have found that it is not a thick gumming residue such as that left by Rem-Oil. You can always test the oil you would like to try by putting some in a small glass dish (such as a tea light candle holder) and letting it sit out. You will know exactly what it is doing inside your machine if you do that. I appreciate all your feedback and hope your information is able to help others setup their machine properly. I don't actually know a whole lot about these old machines but I have helped get several running again after years of neglect. All your info is helpful. Thank you!
@tribe20004 жыл бұрын
@@scramblerman90 Hi. From my engineering knowledge: WD40, like u said, is good for *cleaning up* existing residue. However: it is NOT a lubricant - google it. Many cyclists mistakenly use it to lube their cycle chain - but it's the worst thing you cld use. You need to use a good oil lubricant. Great video BTW!

Oh my goodness I never realized' so easy! Just inherited an older model without the drive belt. So it was first time I threaded it up (which I had done before I saw video) I was looking for how the thread runs to load up the bobbin with thread. I loosened the hand wheel to stop the needle going up & down, & connected the large wheel to the sma bobbin leading wheel etc so all prepared. Just trying to figure out where the thread goes?

Flash forward 4 yrs & I inherited my great grandmother's 1902 Singer Treadle. I have no idea where to begin. The Bullet Bobbin is missing, but I have no clue as to what else is wrong. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know of a good video on actually putting these back together? I've been on the interwebs for HOURS & can't find a single one. This is the closest I've found & while extremely educational, if I can't get the machine put back together then I don't need to know where to put the oil. I'm just at my wits end. I thought youtube had videos on everything, but somehow I'm missing the ones I really need. Thanks for any help. 🙂

Hi! Firstly: thanks a lot for the informative video's! Secondly: I have a question about threading my newlt acquired Singer 28k: I followed your instructions and inserted the bobbin into the shuttle but the thread does'nt run freely. Looks like it's stuck. If I pull very hard the bobbin does spin. Before 'clicking' the thread under the tensioner it does run freely. I tried to lossen up the screw and udjust the tension but this didn't seem to help. Do you know what might be the problem?

Hello, thank you for making this video. I do have a couple of questions if I may ask. I have a machine that looks just like yours. Its model number is 14529660 .The decals are the same and so is the bobbin winder. My bobbin gets its power from the cable not a rubber tire that is run by the wheel. I believe my winder is rusted so as it leans into the cable, the little round part does not move. How do you get that unfrozen or will I have to get a new one? My next question is we did buy a bobbin and a shuttle, but they seem too big to fit into the machine. I can get it in but I think it’s upside down. Is there more than one size shuttle for these machines?

Clear, colourless sewing machine oil is the best. You can "loosen up" sticky and stuck parts from the old, old sewing machine oile using deodourised kerosene (called paraffin in some places) and then after that use sewing machine oil.
