I had a gaggle of new ones on a call yesterday. A gunsmith called asked for a "Key" to remove the "Barrel Nut" on a customers gun. You guessed it, he wanted the bushing wrench to remove the bushing. Then I asked if he could see a hole in the guide rod to insert a paper clip for an alternate takedown method, and he stated that the barrel rod (guide rod) was getting hung up on inside the spring cover (either the recoil spring plug or the dust cover... I was not able to figure it out). SO I said he can send the gun back to us for service if he wants.

Stove pipe describes the malfunction in ejections that leaves the spent round stuck sticking up out of ejection port of the slide. Looks like a stove pipe, I’m only from the 80’s & had minimal guidance on my firearm adventure. I’m not sure it counts as a jam but it’ll describe the issue better, mine has done it a few times & it’s usually the ammo. My wheel gun doesn’t do this!!!

I always considered the backstrap to be the grip safety and the MSH. All the way down the back of the pistol. That's the backstrap. Gas Pedal is a separate aftermarket device used as a thumb rest for your left (Off hand) thumb, usually mounted to the dust cover on the frame. Should have been called a "Dead Pedal".

And clip is not a “just doesn’t know”’issue. Back in the day everyone on both sides of the counter, in the industry and veterans referred to detachable mags as clips. The insistence on the “proper term” is an insecure “I want to feel like one of the initiated” thing sonny 😉

@@alchemy1911 well I’m also old enough to know you are wrong 😉 all the folks I learned about guns from back in the day were ww1, ww2 Korean and Vietnam veterans and all used the term clip. So all the nonsense we hear today is just that. Revisionist history

@@RustyJoe well if you really want to know why I say bless your heart…the M1 DID use a clip and not a detachable magazine. That’s why it was referred to as such. The m14 had detachable magazines but GIs we also issued stripper clips to reload the mags for weight and space saving, even through Vietnam guys were issued 20 round mags AND rounds on stripper clips to reload the mags. The terms aren’t interchangeable…. Clips and mags are 2 different things. I wouldn’t want to ask a guy for a clip when I really needed a magazine ….. 10 rounds on a clip does you no good without a mag
