Мне 70лет. Мой Зингер достался мне от бабушки. Она получила его в качестве приданного. До сих пор на нем работаю. Неудобство в маленьком объёме катушки. А так работает идеально. Единственное:дедушка со временем переставил ее на ножную станину. Вот прихожу покупать современную открываю челночное устройство, а там сплошь пластмасса- разворачиваюсь и ухожу. Своим Зингером я шью все :от шелка до кожи. Получила большое удовольствие глядя на эту реставрацию - совершенная работа . Браво мастеру вернувшего к жизни это уникальное техническое творение

Мне почти 50, и мне достался от бабушки, которой тоже по наследству перешёл от кого то... была в самодельном деревянном ящике, 10 лет назад установил на ножной привод от "панонии" - как раз подошла... ни разу не пришлось ремонтировать и если вдруг ход становится не очень лёгким, значит очень давно не смазывал... Ну а по поводу того, что она может - брезент плотный советский в четверо еле под лапку засунул (чтоб лапку опустить даже речи не могло быть) прошила с лёгкостью как обычную ХБ - это бесценный шедевр!

У нас тоже была Зингер, ручная, мать , сестра на ней шили, но потом отец купил более современную, более производительную "Лучник", польского производства, которая была гораздо удобней , поэтому Зингер перекочевал на чердак дома, там заржавел и был утилизирован. Как раритет, возможно и ценен, а как швейная машинка , то ,увы ей не угнаться за сегодняшними, электрическими, многофункциональными ... .

@@user-fi6bp6hg8z вот честно, я свой древний Зингер ни за что на современную не променяю - нагрузки от которых он даже не напрягается - современная просто развалится. Мой Зингер по рассказу бабушки тоже долго на чердаке лежал, дедушка добрался, в керосине отмочил почистил и он после этого больше 60 лет в строю, ещё и внукам достанется. Не спорю, что если кто то шьёт профессионально, то ему нужна современная с наворотами, а для периодических работ в быту - лучше её нет (у меня на чердаке лежат и советская и "панония" польская и на чердак отправились потому что зингеру сильно уступают)

@Sergey N ваша ирония не уместна. Если вещь надёжная и качественная и используется не часто, то смысл брать что то новое с наворотами, которыми и пользоваться не будешь. У знакомых так стояла современная, дошёл ход шить, а она не работает - закисла вся... эта же годами может простаивать, но в любой момент достал и начал работать. Ну и главный недостаток современных - к нагрузке капризные, эта же кожу солдатского ремня берет без проблем (если иголка крепкая) А если уж говорить про старые вещи - у меня на кухне нет ни одной современной сковороды с антипригарным покрытием - последнюю 5 лет назад выкинул нафиг и пользуюсь старыми ещё бабушкиными толстосненными дюралевыми, потому что в них готовиться лучше, и при правильном уходе ничего не пригорает.

@@igor0874 согласен насчёт мощи зингера , отец когда-то на этой Зингер сшивал овчинные тулупы, брезентовые тапочки, тогда это были нужные предметы, а сейчас, зачем кому-то надо сшивать ремни, хомуты, тапочки? Поэтому, мне непонятны восхищения данной вещи, которая давно утратила свою значимость, у нас когда-то был патефон, который я из любопытства разобрал, о чем совсем не жалею, потому как звук это штука выдавала совсем уж не качественный, как музейный экспонат, то да, как практическая вещь то даром ненужна. У меня ещё есть кинокамера, кинопроектор, есть телефон Симонс А-35, видеомагнитофон, магнитофон, короче бесполезная лабуда, лежат в гараже, лень выбросить... .

I have a 1938 model SINGER SEWING MACHINE, inherited from my mother. My father bought it for my mother in the year 1940. The main wheel,the bobbin and needle holder are of stainless steel. Till date all parts are bright and shining. I use it allmost daily for my personal stitching and repairing work and oil it regularly. THE MACHINE HAS NEVER BEEN TOUCHED BY ANYONE OTHER THAN MY MOTHER ,MY SISTERS ,MY WIFE AND MY SELF. IT IS 82 YEARS OLD AND TILL DATE IT HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED BY ANY TECHNICIAN. I AM NOW 69 YEARS OLD AND THIS SEWING MACHINE IS THE BEST THING I HAVE IN MY POSSESSION.

Man oh man... Watching you restore this vintage Singer brought tears to my eyes. My dad loved his Singer Sewing Machine. I lost him back in 2016. My dad made so many suits for clients back in Haiti, Bahamas & US between the 60's' up to 2000's. I'm 42 years old now. I just wish I would have watched him a bit more while sewing clothes for clients. I still have his same old Singer machine. Hopefully, I can restore it as well one day. Thanks for the video.

The lack of music is the icing on the cake.. It is impossible to put music on that everyone likes. Far better to just leave it off and not irritate about 80 per cent of the viewers. My Mom used to have a machine like that when I was a child. That is what I learned to sew on.

I remember it flipped over to store . It was a big piece of furniture in our small house . Mum ran up curtains , made clothing and did repairs . It was always being used . Скорее всего сам в солёной воде состарил. Не похоже на естественное старение. Вы ржавый винт из дерева когда-нибудь выкручивали? Они всегда ржавые целиком. Такие машинки не диффицит. 1500-2500 рублей. Вероятно купил за такую сумму, испортил, починил, на youtube заработал на просмотрах...

Gosh things were REALLY made well in those days. My gran had one of these, and both my Mum, and my Mum in Law had a Singer treadle machine. I'm 80 and I still use a sewing machine most days, to make little bits and pieces for Jumble Sales, or for Charities. It really is a life long love.

К сожалению есть детали которые выходят из строя и замену им очень тяжело найти. Даже взять шпульный колпачок который он купил скорее всего в интернете.

We have a family Singer from the 1930s. It's been passed down. Still works beautifully. It's a hand crank like this one, but we have a table that converts it to a foot pedal drive. Works better than any electric machine I've ever owned. Can punch through 3 layers of denim and sew them together in tight seams. We call her Pearl. If you don't thread her exactly right with the correct tension for your fabric, she will spit and eat your thread! A precision machine!

Really impressed that you took that thing completely apart and actually got it sewing. My dad would be impressed and proud of you. He repaired sewing machines for a living his whole life. I was going to offer the original decals from Singer that my dad had, but you went with the laser etching. I spent many a Saturday cleaning those machines and watching dad make em work again. My hats off to pardner. Outstanding work. Definitely a job very well done. Especially saving it from the scrap yard.

I am totally amazed at how you used laser to engrave in the decal replacements, it workes great. The originals came with lots of options, could have been colorful, often only gold, simple or very ornate. My guess is it a Singer 127, (if it is smaller so called 3/4 size it is a 128). If I am allowed to point it out, it should run very smoothly when cleaned, oiled and adjusted. It sounds way to noisy when test sewing. The plates you chose to pain red was nickle plated, when chrome plating became common it replaced the nickle. The bobbin shuttle should not touch the body when it moves back and forth.

Beautiful work! I’m very happy to see a old sewing machine back in action! As someone who sews and has several vintage machines the bobbin blew me away! Had never seen that bobbin mechanism. I have just been given a 1900 Singer that is not in as bad a shape as this one, the gold decals are still visible. I need to figure out a way to restore without stripping the decals… you have given me some ideas for the rest , though. Much luck and success to you!

Пластмасса-пластмассой, а Brother - вещь! Схема движения нити намного продуманнее, чем на старых машинках: заправлять нитку - одно удовольствие! Несколько движений одной рукой, нажатие кнопки и - можно шить. Управление положением иглы при помощи сервопривода - это тоже то, что создателям механических машинок и не снилось: вспоминаю механику на советских моделях - насколько там всё было сложно и ненадёжно... А у японцев - моторчик, микроконтроллер и - сотня программ на все случаи жизни.

Cloth is the material, clothes are what is made out of the cloth. Wonderful machine. My mother was gifted with it. Made our clothes and knitted cardigans, sweaters, vests, hats, scarves and mittens. 6 kids!

Yes, we remember our machines are JAPANNED, covered in a thick, baked in, almost indestructible CERAMIC. Which cannot of course corrode. And if it did, it certainly would not look the same as the metal plates. This machine has been sprayed all over with some gritty substance, or dipped in it.

@@eh1702 I have a couple of the old machines and picked up one that was not quite as bad as this one but not far off. The coating is not nearly as indestructible as people think, mostly because like any hard ceramic, it chips easily. The rusty one I picked up was a “portable” hand-crank model, dated to 1910 and has lots of chips in the coating, and more recently had been in a flood before I picked it up. Wherever the coating had chipped, there was quite a lot of rust. Only the thick layer of solidified, oxidised oil had somewhat protected the innermost workings.

@@tigereyemusic Yes, it chips, usually on the “arm” where people used to wrap a cloth to stick their pins in. Mine (1880s-90s) also has chips at the corners. But look at the whole thing, and the box. It has been dipped in some gritty soup, or sprayed uniformly over. The metal parts never end up looking indistinguishable from the japanning. All that needed was a wipe with a cloth. Anyway, as an antique it is absolutely ruined. Not restored but made over into something else. They even managed to make the wooden stand look weird.

There are so many things to praise in this restoration but the only one I will mention is that …given how easy it is to make any sewing machine unworkable, especially the tension and jamming the moving parts, stopping them moving in smooth unison, your work is even more remarkable by the fact that it worked so well. The very first thing I ever sewed was on a Singer but not electric, even older, a treadle that belonged to an old aunt. Getting the branding on was the icing on the cake. When you did that I was gobsmacked. Is there any gadget you don’t have?

My Dad was a Singer Sewing Machine mechanic for over fifty years. He always said that the older machines built in the U.S, were built to last forever. The repair problems skyrocketed when Singer outsourced their machines overseas to be built by foreign manufactures, and sometimes right out of the box they wouldn't work. Also, as piece of historic trivia, Singer was tapped by the government during WW 2 and manufactured M1 rifles for the military.

I have to strongly disagree. Singer built an enormous factory in Clydebank, Scotland and one in Germany, both of which produced premium quality products. I know that some machines were made in France and although I'm not sure, I suspect that those were also built to last. It was not where the sewing machines were built that was the problem, it was that Singer transitioned to making them out of plastic rather than metal. Plastic body's are bad enough, but plastic gears simply don't last due to the loads on them. Today the cheapest machines don't even have a metal frame under the body and it is possible to twist the entire body. They are now disposable products, not meant to last a decade. Electronic circuitry and semiconductors make them unrepairable. But none of this is because they are made in China. In ways it's sad, yet the cost of a sewing machine has dropped to a tiny fraction of what one cost 120 years ago. What a modern sewing machine can do today is astonishing and capabilities will continue to improve at an astounding pace. Is this progress though? In some ways yes, in others no. The heirloom quality vintage sewing machines are mechanical marvels and will be treasured for hundreds of years to come, when most made today have long crumbled to dust. I simply love them. The history of the humble sewing machine is fascinating and complex. All the best Steve and have a great one.

My Dad has been gone for a while, but I do remember him talking about machines built in Italy and I think Japan. I also agree with you about plastic parts and disposable products.

Wow! That was an amazing transformation! I actually have an old Wheeler sewing machine which dates back to early 1900s. At one time Wheeler and Wilson was the largest sewing machine company in the world but Singer acquired Wheeler in 1905 and continued selling the Wheeler brand for a few more years.
