On June 28, 1919, Germany and the Allied Nations (including Britain, France, Italy and Russia) signed the Treaty of Versailles, formally ending the war hence 1919 :)

It's hard for Hollywood/America to portray Americans in action in WW1, considering much of it was playing soldier at the rear whilst the rest fought on the battlefield though they could do a few movies of them in action when the allies decided since they were useless at the start will just give them defensive positions. You got Pershing to thank for sidelining America(not including African-Americans that fought under the french), they did see a lot of action nearing the end.

Most Modern Armies use a Derivative of Pre-WW1 German Tactics! German Strategy (and Operational Art) were Not nearly as good! Also learn about the Rohr "Training Battalion" or (I think XV Korps), commanded by the German chief of Engineers, he used "Stormtrooper" Tactics from nearly the beginning of the war.

@@bobprobertisgod2496 Main player? More divisions yes but post 1917 the British and Empire troops pretty much took the brunt of the fighting and eventual winning. The British and Empire forces captured over twice as many German Prisoners as the French in 1918. But this is not point scoring. The British would have won without the French; the French would not have won without the British. But to say MAIN player is a bit disrespectful to the British role in WWI. This is a British war film, why does it need to show French? Do the Americans show British troops in their WWII movies? Nope. Do French show Brits in their war movies?
@bobprobertisgod24965 жыл бұрын
French occupied 75% of Western front when Germany was at its strongest. French war movies would give a more accurate portrayal. British got all their 'victories' as the germans retreated, shortening and strengthening their lines. The british up until that point had won no major victories and without american presence both british and French would have lost. British haven't won a major land battle since Quebec.

Except no one could ever run through N0-Mans Land. Here's why: It's a shooting gallery with thousands of men on both sides of you. Just lifting your head above the parapet was suicidal. 2. The ground was chewed up by artillery. Walking was very slow and very difficult, running impossible. This was the main reason there was never a breakthrough on either side. 3. Obstacles and barbed wire. Both sides made sure of placing ankle high entanglements that rest on the ground and snag your boot as soon as you walk near them and your boot goes below the wire. 4. Rotting corpses from past assaults. 5. The machine gunners would be active during a full out assault and someone running would obviously attract the eye and he'd be a target; and even if not, 6. there was such a shit-storm of lead coming the other direction he'd be knocked down from random bullets. 7. Those explosions behind him would throw broken hunks of metal, rocks, steel splinters, pellets not to mention the concussion in all directions, regardless of how fast he was running. During an assault, the trenches would be empty, so why not go that way, the fast, safe way? Other than that, great movie.

4 years, 3-1/2 months, with the low end estimate of 9 million dead from direct combat-related fatalities (not including POWs, disease, etc), you get an average of AT LEAST 5750 fatalities per day. Anybody familiar with Sabaton will know that 1600 fatalities is a pretty damn good day for WWI.

BobProbertisGOD #24 the British didn’t have to help the French. But they did. It was purely the French governments fault for the defeat. Why would Britain lose 400,000 troops and leave itself defenceless for another countries blunder. The action at Dunkirk alone Britain to continue fight, harbour the occupied nations governments and troops. win the battle of Britian, Bomb key targets in Germany and rag-doll the Italians in North Africa. Forcing the Germans to invade the Soviet Union instead and also get the America involved in the war in Europe. France owes Britain an unplayable debt.
@bobprobertisgod24965 жыл бұрын
France owes britain a debt for what exactly? Buggering off the continent? In Dunkirk, the first four minutes give a shining example of british military prowess: british soldiers, tired from running away, amble through the streets of Dunkerque. Suddenly weapons fire breaks out! Do the Tommies return fire? Nope, run away get shot in the back then find the French, who were actually interested in killing the Boche. 27,000 british KIA, most shot in the back or ass as they buggered off towards the channel, 90,000 French KIA, which definitely shows the level of british determination. Maybe a debt for the british bombing of Mers-el- Kebir or Dakar? I would've loved to see the French drive the british back into the sea during Operation Torch. Too bad the Americans went in first.

We all know why they aren't making a historically accurate WWI film - nobody could cope with it. I can't even cope with reading about it. In the Somme over a million people died in less than four months. Every time I skim the Wikipedia pages I find something else that knocks me for six. Here's today's fact: "Some casualties survived for up to a week in no man's land, living on rations from dead soldiers' packs before being rescued." If you made that film audiences would crawl out and turn to drink.

To all the people complaining that 1,600 deaths is nothing compared to other battles in the war. War is the sum of battles. When you gather troops, you have to take them from somewhere. If these 1,600 men were walking into a trap, they would die and leave a vacuum of power in their stead. Vacuum of power = not good. War movies don't have to be about the entire war, they can be small scale stories.
