Regarding "maximalist Israel", people often miss the difference between the historical Israel and the promised land. I don't want to get into religion but historians argue that part of the promised land was never "delivered", and the Hebrew Bible itself makes claims from which we can conclude that.

its always very frustrating seeing people who dont know anything about Zionism assume its claim is on religious grounds. controvertial country with a diaspora? I could assume it might be either a country in which Jews had a dark side or there is a heated debate on how Jews lived there. on the former, I could assume it might be South Africa, the caribbeans (Jewish Pirates), Nigeria (Israeli support for both sides of the civil war). on the latter I could assume it might be latin america (crypto jews), Islamic nations (debate on how good they were realy treated), spesificaly Yemen (due to the missing Yemenite Children scandal) or perhaps Japan (Judeo-Philia that was there for some times). But if I had to take a nice guess, ill go with South Africa, final awnser.

I think one thing you forgot to mention was the Faisal-Weizmann Agreement where Chaim Weizmann and Emir Faisal made a deal for Jewish settlement in Palestine but that got scuttled by the plans of the British and the French. It probably would not have worked since I'm guessing both Chaim Weizmann and Emir Faisal were talking past each other on what they meant politically and even if it did work, somebody else would have said "um, no Emir Fairsal has no right to negotiate for us and we reject." Probably the Mufti himself.

@boazjamesmiller6387Күн бұрын
Realistically, it must be understood that the Palestinian people want a fully independent sovereign state in the West Bank and Gaza, which by necessity must include control over their own military and foreign policy. Anything less than this has not and will not be accepted by the Palestinian people, which is the reason the 1993 Oslo Accords and the 2000 Camp David summit ultimately failed. If Israel had been willing to concede these things at the time, the entire reason for the conflict would have ended and the safety of Israeli civilians would have been achieved anyway.
@zjzr08Күн бұрын
@@boazjamesmiller6387 Don't you think there's more of a likelihood the Palestinians of the West Bank will still wage war, seeing when Israel did leave Gaza, Hamas attacked Israel - look up interviews from Palestinians in the West Bank and they still assert areas that are officially recognized as Israel today, and weeding out Islamist elements while also allowing to have Jews be allowed as citizens of this Palestinian state should be part of that agreement.

I think incorporating some parts of Transjordan does make the ethnic lines fit also for Levantine Arabs as their language continuum also expanded a bit of that side too (unless it apparently only recently happened) - that being said the Jordan River split was probably closest to a sustainable two-state solution than we got IMO as it will expound that Levantine (Muslim-majority) Arabs who don't want to live in a Jewish majority state can just vountarily leave to a society with a Levantine Muslim Arab majority state IMO and would have official land to expand east.

It is claimed that the 1834 peasants revolt is the emergence of a distinct‘Palestinian’ identity. But this seems to be only a part of the larger Syrian Peasants Revolt. Secondly, there seems to be strong antisemitic elements to these revolt, particularly in Safed, but also in other places with a Jewish population. Even the sacking of Jerusalem seems very sectarian in that the peasants selectively targeted the Jewish & Christian quarters. I find the actual accounts of the revolt inconsistent with the notion that the revolt was motivated by or resulted in some sort of Palestinian proto-nationalism. I have a pet theory that this is all mid-20th century retconning. I suspect a lot of folk songs and oral history conveniently corrupted the term ‘Fellahin’ to ‘Filastine’. I’m so confident of this second theory that I expect to come across it in writing, but never have. Has anyone else come across the theory or have good reasons to dismiss it.
