When beading using very fine thread, it's very important to have a bar of beeswax, it will solve the problem you had with the foundation chain. Got real into bead crochet and that's what the book I used suggested to do. So, if you do this type of crochet, keep this in mind, it was a lifesaver for me.
@TheKatherine19589 ай бұрын
Oh I’m getting old! I cannot remember what I needed beeswax for in my embroidery (it’s only been 2 years 🙄!) but I had to purchase some to finish a butterfly I’d made. My point- beeswax is useful in embroidery as well. Just don’t ask me where! Lol
@doninis13549 ай бұрын
What is the beeswax doing? Do you wax the threat, to stop it from twisting?
@RealMelodyBlue9 ай бұрын
@@doninis1354 it also makes the thread glide smoothly as you're working. I still have a stick of it.
@jodiebristow32109 ай бұрын
@doninis1354 The wax serves a couple of different purposes. It helps to add weight to the thread, which will help with the twisting. It helps with the gliding of the beads, but most importantly, it strengthens the thread. Which will keep the thread from fraying and add to the longevity of the product made. I learned this when making beaded jewelry.

I am the proud owner of my grandmother's black crocheted and beaded bag. My grandmother was born in 1899 and it was made by her mother, my great grandmother. It has an oval cardboard box bottom covered by black silk crochet with multicolored wooden beads every few rows and has a thin silver crocheted edging on top. It is closed by black laces edged in decorated silver tips that are threaded through holes in the last black crocheted row. All of it done in single crochet. I treasure it dearly.
@brittanyk39239 ай бұрын
A tip I picked up from the tatting community is to put a dot of Elmer’s glue on your finger and pinch the end of your thread through it, making sure you’re rolling/twisting it straight. Let it dry for a minute, snip off the very end at an angle, and you have a stiff, sharp end to thread beads directly onto.

I'm only 15:45 in but you could also use Delica style seed beads instead, they are that same stack-able shape as cut steel but are essentially the same price as the rounded shape Czech/Miyuki seed beads

You could use delica beads instead of the round seed beads. They are like little cylinders and stack like the original steel cut beads in the pattern. I made some beaded jewelry for a short while and got to know the different beads on the market.

You can get the correct shaped beads more affordably than you found. They are called Delica beads. Half the battle is knowing what to look for. I purchase all of mine through a business online, but if anyone has an actual bead store nearby, they are easy to find that way. Edit: I forgot to mention that type of needle is called a big eye needle. They can be useful, but also break easily.

Ah! Gorgeous! I'm definitely not at the skill level to try this now, but it's going on my someday list! It's funny, though. I only discovered tapestry crochet's existence yesterday, and here you are with something that can use that technique as a substitute. Amazing. Oh, and if you did this in blue and white, it would look very inspired by the flag of Quebec! It uses the fleur-de-lis (the 'lis' part is, indeed, pronounced as 'lee' -- as in Robert E. Lee) as the main motif as well. I might have to learn some tapestry crochet and try this out that way first. Maybe I'll opt for a thicker yarn and make a project bag! Looking forward to the next part!
