Back in the day I came home one morning with no way to hold my head that didn’t hurt. Dad put me on our identical JD D with a breaking plow to work down some freshly cleared land. The handle on the steering wheel didn’t work to pretty good, couldn’t sit down as the bolt in the seat was loose and those steel wheels bouncing over rocks and roots all day taught me a valuable lesson...stay at my buddies house next time.

What a nice piece of farming history. Love this video. Thanks a bunch. Nothing like the sound of an old Johnny popper.

Love the video, and the sound brings back memories. Just like the one I drove as a teenager, but ours had no mudguards, and extra wide rear wheels. One thing, when we shut ours down, we would switch fuel from Kero to Petrol for a minute or so, before switching off fuel. Made next start easier.

these tractors were mostly used for belt work but they were good 3-16 trip plow in so illinois soil was all they wanted to handle many started on gas then you switched them to K1 and on belt work adding water injection with K1 they ran the smoothest. they were very easy on fuel consumption.

Start watching the farm auction listing for the upper and central midwest. These often go for ~$700 - $1500 in runnable/running condition and under $500 for mostly complete non runners. We (extended family) just picked one up a month ago as a 'barely runner' for somewhere around $900 and it took me about half a day to get it cleaned up and running good. Now a month and ~ $450 later is a solid good running and driving old tractor! Give me another year and ~ $1500 more and it will be like new!

Very smooth running engine, and I don't hear as much transmission growl as I have on my '28 D. An older and a goodee!
