Unbelievable how much power a 90+ year old outboard puts down. I guess I should say "how well it moves that boat". Love this channel 🙏🏻

My favourite was an early British Seagull with brass fuel tank.I have no idea of its age. It was quite happy using 10 % oil in its fuel I used it to propel a Manus Island built outrigger canoe . It cost 110 kina fro the local chandlers as an unretrieved repair. A friend who collected Seagulls restored the spark with the addition of a capacitor in the magneto circuit. My friend ,who built the canoe, used it for night fishing around Rabaul Harbour and we received some delicious meals from Red Emperors caught . At the finish of my work contract after several years, I returned to Oz ,but decided that the Seagull belonged on the outrigger.I like to imagine that it’s still putting around the Islands and giving its owner relief from having to paddle for hours at a time. Good Memories👍😷🇦🇺

won Tok also the old pentas were a favourite on the sepic canoes whe tere in the 60s/70s the seagull will push a 12 foot boat at the same speed as a 20 foot god old motors parts still available in England

I remember reading somewhere that ELTO stood for Evinrude Light Twin Outboard.

You are correct. ELTO was Ole Evinrude’s second outboard company.

And air cooled! Beautiful outboard
@uppercanadachapter-aomcian41664 жыл бұрын
It is water cooled via pressure/vacuum created by the propeller. Often enthusiasts will start the motor on land to warm them up prior to use. There is no harm as long as the operator keeps a close eye on the temperature.

love seeing these old 2 stroke boat motors of the 1920's, however 1 thing really pisses me off, being an automotive & motorcycle guy for last 40 years, why in the world didnt we have any engines that ran like this on motorbikes, or cars back then? lol, so yeah I want 1, LOL..... I got my eye on one, if I can save to buy before it sells?

They do need a lot of oil, but a motor in good tune won't smoke much even at such heavy ratios.
