193. HME Group Train Ride at The Valley Heights Rail Museum ~ Sat. 4/03/2023

Hornsby Model Engineers group outing to The Valley Heights Rail Museum, 17 Tusculum Rd, Valley Heights NSW. In this video we board a passenger car ~ a LFA 179 end loading platform American suburban Car and take a short ride hauled by a X class Locomotive X206.
[ The V set which passes us on the main line at 10 min 4s in is the Lithgow 9.48am to Central 12.41pm 4 car Intercity service stopping at Valley Heights at 11.22am. The V set driver gives us a toot. toot...!!].
The LFA American suburban Car was condemned in 1974 and transferred to the NSW Rail Transport Museum’s collection. It was transferred to the Steam Tram and Railway Preservation (Co-op) Society on 24 November 2008.
To prepare the carriage for service, it was necessary to withdraw, examine and test the draw hooks, bogies, and other items for fatigue cracks before executing any repairs. The examination included the air brake system.
The car began regular service on the Valley Heights Mixed in 2015. It was repainted in the Tuscan and russet colour scheme in late 2017.
CLASS X200 (Series 1) TYPE - 0-4-0 SMALL SHUNTING DIESEL TRACTOR - 6 IN CLASS (Series 1) In late 2013 some members kindly made donations to the Museum specifically to assist with the purchase of a diesel loco that could be used for shunting operations and to enable the Museum to run passenger rides for the public on prescribed Fire Ban days or those of high fire risk.
Subsequently it has been restored and modified.
