Jack of all trades! Noticed you chose not to show the padding of pleats with the muslin backing. People just have no idea how long this type of work takes. Kudos to you.

Brought back many memories of my first upholstery job on my 1926 Model T touring. We drove up to Greenfield Village to take measurements and pictures of the 15 millionth T because back in the 70's there were no detailed photos. My machine was an old Singer treddle type that I'd added a sewing machine motor. I did most of my work in the drive way in the warm sun to make the textured vinyl more plyable. Something I used, small weeping willow trees from a nearby river for the seat back tack strips. Soaking them in water then using a lot of C-clamps worked well. After 40+ years the seats still looked decent. Back then I used tacks where there was wood in many areas. I upholstered several old pick up trucks and cars after that. All were just basic simple custom jobs. If I'd done it for a living I'd gone broke!

Clever. I'll have to try that next time I need to make a tack strip.

@@onewhocollects6781 Cut the small willow trees when young and flexable. Soak in a piece of house gutter filled with water. Then place on rear tack strip area of seat and add small C-clamps. Somewhere I'd gotten a large 3' wide roll of Army green canvas type material to use as the first seat spring covering, hog ringed in place. Used it for years for lots of projects.

Just reviewing some of your older videos now. Since my wife and I are looking around for a '31 Slant Window Fordor, all of these are very helpful. By the way, I do a mean imitation of your delivery that drives her crazy. For a guy that might be 30 years old, you have a huge amount of talent and experience with these tired old cars. MAGNIFICENT!

You know I too have tackled many of these 'projects' then again I've been a 'craftsman' for several decades and understand 'common sense' (a rather rare thing as you know) Bottom line...."it's not 'rocket science" If one man built it another can too. The most important things and I think, and you show it well, is PATIENCE and to not BE IN A HURRY! Even the most "oh my goodness, how did I do that" ?!! can usually turn out pretty nice with the patience and not in a hurry thing going on. Another enjoyable and informative video. Good job!

The seats look brilliant and your explanations of how and why you attached the covers was very informative.

Looks great! I found that even upholstering a simple bucket seat for my speedster had a very steep learning curve. At one point I didn't think I was going to ever get it right. I wouldn't want to do it for a living.. lol

Looks nice! I made a simple seat frame press out of a board, a piece of plywood, and some all-thread with nuts and washers. It allowed me to compress the springs while I attached the front, back, and most of the sides. Then I removed the press and finished the sides.

I can appreciate you're doing all this yourself & because the rest of the car is not show quality then it won't matter if it's not perfect but nothing says class & workmanship like an original LeBarron Bonney upholstery kit. I spent the dough for my '31 Slant 160B & got the fabulous Broadcloth trim of the era & it was absolutely worth the dough.The smell is amazing when you open the doors!

Beautiful job on those seats. Fine furniture for your vehicle.

You are so correct on most restorers overpadding Model A seats. After looking at most restored Model A's, overpadded seats look rediculous. Also the raised height sets people too high in the car, unless they are fat..Your seats look just right and comfy.

I like your style. I too do some of this kind of work and I can see and appreciate the thought you're putting into things like where the pleats fall and how the underpadding is very important to the finished look. Great job. I'm enjoying your series.

I just have a question. When you got done with the seat, how did you do the welting to cover the staples or tacks?
@onewhocollects67813 ай бұрын
I used Wire-on trim. It gets nailed down, then folds over to hide the nails.

Nice. I am surprised there is not a steamer in the video standing ready to go. Or maybe you purposely left that out to keep some of your tricks hidden; either way I like your style!

unfortunately, the place I got it from is now gone. I think Classtique upholstery still sells it. They have several materials that they sell by the yard.
