Glad to see your apprentice put on some hearing and eye protection, but where is the lung protection, he's stripping 100 yr. old paint that could have lead in it. You can live without hearing or your eyes but it's rather hard to live without your lungs. I smoked for over thirty years and now can't run very far. I worked around loud cabinet blowers and hydraulically driven antennas in the service for twenty years, and now wear hearing aids. I wish I had those back at normal, but those are my crosses to bear. Take care of your body, you only get one and replacement parts are expensive, if available at all. You do really good work and I hope you can continue making peoples dreams come true and passing on that knowledge.😃😃✌👍

Don’t know what I’m talking about . I do have 1930 RR project going . Saw on a video of a gentleman using torch and hand sheet metal tools . Seemed easier but would that distort more? Like what you do… and young man practicing tig 👍

Yeah the torch heats a large area including highs and lows. A shrinking disc only heats up the high spots that I want to shrink down.

Anxious to see how you get that big stretch/oil can down with the shrink disc. Got a similar situation on the pass back side of a 29 CCPU. Looks like a sack of walnuts. ;o(

Would you consider just cutting that section out and welding in a piece of straight metal? Or what that require more work?

I like to save the original metal. It was better than the new stuff so I only replace when I have to. I can make it but I like to save the panels if I can

I am literally doing The same thing to the cab in my avatar... The only difference is I had to replace the bottom 6 in on pretty much the entire cab now I am on to body working 90 years of dents and dings. The entire back of my cab when you look at it waves at you.
