This is cool Tim. Subscribed and following. Suggest tacking a small scre driver and griding down making a tack puller out of it. The paint is probably lacquer. i was confused when you had written about the tape. But that was just duck tape applied to hold the top material down for transport I guess ?

Yeah previous owner had the original top blow off during transport, and had to make a solution on the side of the interstate so used duct tape to secure a tarp! And that’s exactly what I plan to do, I just found a perfect spare flat head to modify!

literally going through the same thing now. we have my wifes grandfathers (now ours) 35 chevy standard i think it may have been redone in the 70s-80s i thnk the wood may be original though, i know its really old but still solid. the top is trying to peal on the edges and i cant find no videos on any type of tutorial. almost seems like a lost art which makes me even more egger to learn. i also noticed the nails are more square which made me think original too
