So many were from 1936 which was the year my parents were married. I don't think they ever recovered from the depression. We were almost as poor. I was born in the middle 40s and was their 5th child. We lived from paycheck to paycheck. We weren't the only ones that lived like that in our town. We had the rich, middle class, and poor. We fell into the last group. But, we had each other.

Just gotta say that I think all the scanning motion is unnecessary. Picture scan up, next picture down, next one up. It doesn't really add anything. It's just annoying. Motion for the sake of motion. These photos are really good and would easily stand on their own merit.

There is nothing bizarrre about these photos. They document one of the most difficult times we have endured in the US. These families lost nearly EVERYTHING in the Dust Bowls of the 30's. No crops would grow in their fields. Their homes and belongings were destroyed. Some had no vehicles to get them to the "Promised Land" in California where they had been promised back breaking work in the vegetable, citrus, and cotton fields. So they walked carrying what they could on their backs, hoping someone might stop to give them a ride. There is a book by John Steinbeck titled The Grapes of Wrath that describes the plight of many people during this period. The book was made into a heart wrenching movie (same title) starring Henry Fonda. Thanks for posting this video!!

Yakima Valley is in Washington State, not Washington DC. Colorizing these photos helps me understand the past better. Thank you.

With these photos you get a glimpse into white privilage. Our grandparents went through some hard times, for this younger generation to only throw away all of Gods blessings.
