We "Recovered" the car from Jess's Moms on the 27th Feb 22.. exactly 5 weeks ago.
It had been stood in a dry shed, in Cornwall, for over 10 years.... Jess parked it there...!!
Over the last few weeks we have fitted a new battery and replaced the engine oil.
It's actually in pretty good shape. I've stripped and cleaned the Carb... checked and lubricated other bits as required.
Many new parts are on order but we wanted to be sure the engine ran before committing to any major expense.
The fuel tank was drained and new fuel put in.... however, today, it would not run !! Yesterday checked, adjusted and cleaned all the ignition components... spark plugs were poor and the HT leads have seen better days.... but there was a spark albeit a weak one.
In desperation I poured some fuel into the carb.. and it fired up... then died. On checking the fuel supply it was apparent that old fuel (a yukky yellow colour) was still being delivered to the carb !! Strange.... I had previously pumped a couple of litres into a jug so as the clear any old fuel in the lines.... It's a mystery as to where the old fuel is coming from.... Anyhow..... I pumped some more through the lines... using the lever on the fuel pump and and the petrol started to look a little clearer.
Eventually is fired up and after a few short runs even idled nicely.
A big day today ... we were all excited to see and hear it run.

@@PaulDonovan HI there !! I love people cherish those old classic cars !! That must be hard & you need to be very patient & really put lots of care & efforts into keeping them in such good shapes !! I & mom once met nice men drove classic cars ,we just admired both leaving a restaurant in those cars ,they understood it right away ,they left with big smiles !! It was in Marina Del Ray . In 2013 or so !! I still remember that !! I wish if I collected those myself ! Shame on me for not being keen with cars & the mechanisms !! 👍👍🙋‍♀️💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

@@spark_6710 thank you for writing such a nice reply. I think it is important to keep old things in working order and not just in a museum. We stayed at Marina Del Ray many years ago on one of our US Roadtrips... Hopefully we will be back maybe next year... we have friends in Lakewood. This year... hopefully... we plan to complete the last five States. We have been in 45 so far .. has taken over 20 years. Regards from England Paul 😎👍

@@PaulDonovan I agree 👍 💯 I mean ,if you can do like that ,why not !!!? Awesome !!! You're very very welcome !! I wish if I could !! I am not handy ! Lol. I think cars were fancier back then vs now ! They had more uniqueness & personalities !! Vibes & nuances !! Now ,they are more robotic ,or the same as everything else ! ? That is always fascinating to read about your trips to U.S. !! FAR-OUT !!! 👍👍👍I was just telling mom that I had flown 80 times ,travelling by train/ bus/ automobiles, I can't count !! And I have moved 6 times in Tokyo ( in my 22 years there ! )& I've moved 12 to 13 times in U.S.in the last 34 years !!! I think that's amazing & cray cray !! Lol. I love moving & travelling & hardly get any home sickness !! Lol I'd love to see all the States in U.S.,too !! There are so many beautiful places here in this country that I haven't been to ,yet !! My favourite places in the States are San Francisco & Carmel ,Laguna Beach !! I'd love love to visit lake Tahoe & Vermont !!! Have you !? Thank you so much for your kind words & replies as always !! And I'll pray for you to accomplish that mission this year ,or the next year !!! 🙏🏼 🙋‍♀️🚄✈⛴🚌💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

I take it that you don't know a lot about vintage cars... That is just about the worst thing that you could ever do to a 90 year old Austin engine! It's not a 2010 Yamaha dirt bike and you should never rev it like that especially from cold, it's an internal combustion engine that was in it's infancy when it was built and they we're never designed for sudden repeated changes in engine speed. You start it and hold it at just enougn RPM to keep it running and then you gradually increase the revs up and down the range until it warms up and ticks over. All that you're going to do is to either snap a con rod or drop a valve if you treat it like that. And please put a bloody air filter on it as well before you start it up again.

Whoa... keep your hat on you'll have a coronary !! Note: The very first start (which was just for a few seconds) is the shot from the rear. The other shots were taken later and the engine was warm. In fairness the "Revving" is not as aggressive as you make out ... more of a blip of the throttle to stop it stalling. A more thorough clean of the Carb had it running much better later. The engine had a major rebuild in 1992 (better Crank and Con Rods fitted along with uprated oil pump and external modern oil filter) prior to its John O'Groats to Lands End run and ... its grand tour of Europe including over the Alps...by the way... we understand all of that without an air filter !! ... we WILL fit one soon. I do know a lot about engines having rebuilt many over the years including some exotic military engines. Currently restoring a 1950s ALVIS LEONIDES 9 Cyl 11.8 litre Radial Engine... you might find this of interest... kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4nGfK1-j8Rrr7s regards Paul
