In today's video, old Buzz examines the filter choke to see if it's possible to repair it....then it's time to recap the radio. Later, Buzz drags the cabinet out to the garage to strip it....Holy Mackerel.....what a job!....It's a busy day for Buzz, and he even enlists the help of Dickel to help him polish the chassis. To finish off the video, watch as the Buzzmeister decides to electroplate the tube shields pure silver!..... Submitted for your approval.......Enjoy...

Hey Buzz, just catching up on some episodes. Say, that old finish on that cabinet sure looked like milk paint. In my younger days I worked for wood restoration company. We would come into a place, remove all wood trim and bring it back to the shop to hit the stripper tanks. Built-ins we had to strip in place. When I ran into milk paint, I’d break out the hardcore methyl ethyl chloromine (I think LOL) and after coating liberally, I’d cover with plastic sheeting for an hour to prevent evaporation. Usually took two coats with scraping in between. Then I’d apply a thinner coat and scrub with a soft brass brush coming right behind with cloth soaked in lacquer thinner. Worked well with that nasty paint. Cheers bud! Mike

Welcome back Buzz. Happy Birthday Peanut. That radio cabinet must have taken hours to srip Buzz. The electroplating with silver and steel is an interesting and helpful way to recondition some metals. That's a cool trick. Thanks for this episode. I am looking forward to the next one.

@@Buzz1151 That's quite possible Buzz but it looked decent enough and certainly much better than what you started with. The great thing about it is you can pull and recondition these shields anytime.

Your patience is inspiring! I'd have painted the tube covers red and said, "THAT looks cool!" - because it is so much easier than the electroplating. But that cabinet... oh I've had stripping nightmares like that -- I felt for you, I really did! But you got it all cleaned off and looking really good. CVan't wait for the next episode!

Hi Buzz! It's always good to see a video from you. It took a lot of elbow grease to clean that cabinet up, but it sure does look nice. Regarding that Philco bakelite block: I've unsoldered the internal capacitor wires then heated the block with a heat gun then pushed out the tar. I used a paper clip or drill bit to push the tar out from the backside. That worked very well for me. Regards, Tom

I watched a video on KZbin about this guy who made chaps out of the finest leather. Well, I was astonished that he insisted it was pronounced 'shaps'. So, going by this, 'chassis' should be pronounced 'shassy'. But hey, I'm just a confused old man who lives 50 miles from France, so this could be an influence.

I heard that those are like Majestic radios, or early 40s U.S built Philcos, full of rotting rubber/gutta percha insulated wire. The Ac/Dc ones must be fun, a hot chassis set with 230-240 volts running through it if the wiring on the plug was reversed.
