1935 Rolls Razor face and head shave

My dad had a Rolls, but broke it when stropping. True about the prices on old razors going up, been looking at some gillete slim adjustables, but there out of my range, plus the postage from USA to UK is through the roof. Nice seeing the Rolls in action brought back memories. Take Care m8.

Be patient. The Gillette Slim Adjustable was manufactured in such vast quantities that it tends to be reasonably priced relative to the fat boy (aka $1.95 razor). Unfortunately, these were not mfg outside of the USA, which puts you at a disadvantage in the UK because of the high cost of postage since 2020, plus customs duty. I encourage you to check out the shaving enthusiasts forums. You have access to British manufactured vintage hard goods that are in demand here in the USA. I bet you can work out a swap with someone. Eventually, one will turn up at the right price.

Great shave Scott. Never heard of that razor. Looks neat. I tried Williams once and never went back to it. But I’ve been seeing people get good shaves with it lately so maybe it’s worth revisiting. Have a great week!

Thanks Aaron. The Rolls Razor is interesting, but a good shaver. I messed up and didn't give it some time on the honing stone before the shave though. I actually like the way it shaves though.

I believe the best places to look for vintage razors, other than in the wild, is Etsy and the shaving forums. The guys on the forums tend to know how to properly rate the condition of their hard goods. Ebay sellers generally are clueless aabout this and they take crappy pix so you can't really see the defects.

The forums is probably the b st place actually, good point. If they overrate something or get something wrong on the description, plenty of guys there to correct them.

Interesting you get lemon scent from Williams. I just get a soap smell from any Williams I've had. Looking forward to watching the Rolls shave. 👍

It's very light but I do pick it up. I should have given it 100 passes on the stone though before the shave, it was ok going with the grain, but against the grain it was like plucking hairs with tweezers.

I was watching that Barbasol as I regretted selling mine awhile back. I stopped watching at $82. It was NO WAY new and never used. 2 gouges on the top cap down to the brass showing in 1 of the pictures gave a better view of it's use besides the gouges.
