This manual Remington Rand typewriter was made in USA in 1937. Cosmetically it was in excellent condition, however, it did not feed the paper at all. I checked youtube and found a "feed roller rebuild" video. It helped me a lot for fixing this problem. Thank you "Phoenix Typewriter" who made such a great video.
• Remington Typewriter F...
It was necessary to replace almost all the rubber parts such as feed rollers, rubber grommets. I did not take a video but, I also replaced this rubber parts later on.

This video is around 30 minutes long, most of my work is in this video. Hope it will help someone someday for restoring his/her typewriter.
Enjoy!!

Your capacity to handle relative complexity so adroitly is very impressive for a young typewriter tech. Your diagnostic procedure appears very intuitive and forthright as well. The gentleman from Phoenix typewriter has expressed some admiration for your rate of advancement and if anyone knows the nuts n' bolts of pursuing a solution it is the men of his ilk who are in the front lines of this occupation and have formed discernible expertise. A keen intuition seems to be a common trait among those so engaged as to inspire us novices. Keep up the good work and thank you for your most enjoyable video instruction series. So many little parts! I felt a bit of anxiety watching you deconstruct everything. I've done basic disassembly and mineral spirit cleaning on a typewriter but nothing this in depth. Very impressed.

Hi, Anthony. Thank you for the comment. The cleaning and restoration for this typewriter, it was really good experience for me. I did the first time to replace the small rubber parts, it went well. Also removing as much many parts as I could make me feel as if I were doing adventure an unknown world. Teddy!

Whats your secret do you just take a lot of pictures or categorize everything when you take it apart?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 жыл бұрын
For me, restoration is observation. First, I just look at the item from various directions, and try to be like the person who designed it. Removing one part at a time, never forget to take a lot of pictures of them. I also take videos of my work, so whenever I lost in the maze, I check my footprints with it. Restoration is kind of solving a mystery for me.

I'm an advertising copywriter. Obviously, "noiseless" typewriters were hardly noiseless! But they were significantly less noisy than ordinary typewriters, hence the name. Think about it; Remington could've called it the "Remington Less Noisy" typewriter but, while accurate, that would be a terrible name. So "noiseless" was a good choice. (And names often take liberty with absolute reality. Baseball player "Shoeless Joe Jackson" often wore shoes.)

Bravo! How do you keep track of all the tiny screws and parts, and remember what goes where?

I write memo with each parts and put them in a small containers. The containers will be organized and lined from start to end. Therefore, I just follow the order of the container from back to beginning. I read my memo and see my pictures when I put all parts together.

I took plenty of the pictures and memo, hand drawing before removing the parts. Also I use small container to organize the removed parts in order, so I can follow the reverse order to built it back. Enjoy your restoration!

Love your video. Great ideas on how to organize parts for reassembly also. Any chance you can explain exactly what you did in the video to remove the ribbon spool? I want to take mine out not only to replace it but to be able to remove the cover for cleaning and polishing. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@teddyhashee

There was screws that holding the ribbon spool to the body. You can just remove that screws.

Hi! I have the same typewriter, and Uppercase letters are lighter on the bottom and lower then lowercase slightly. Do you happen to know to fix it? Ive been struggling to find any reference. Thank you!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 жыл бұрын
You need to adjust vertical typeface alignment. In English, you want to adjust uppercase and lowercase alignment in order to set them straight in one line. There are many articles about how to do it like this one. goo.gl/HjnYcv Google it, there are also videos that show how to do it! Teddy

What size tubing did you use for the rollers?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 жыл бұрын
What I did was brought the parts that need a new tube to the car parts shop and went the back room where they had a many size of the tube, I checked each of them with the parts and found just a good size tube for it. That the best way to find just fit tube. FYI

Hi I have one of these. It goes across fine when I start typing but flys across once it gets to the middle. Do you have any idea why this could be. Thanks
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 4 жыл бұрын
Probably the roller rail (straight steel with cog on its back under the carriage) is not set right. If I were you I would check the carriage release as well as roller rail.
@hang-sangitch
@hang-sangitch 4 жыл бұрын
@@teddyhashee You nailed it. It was the carriage release. The carriage release lever on the left wasn't sitting back all the way as it was catching on the end of a screw jutting out from the inside of the carriage end plate. So just unscrewed it out a bit and voila. Done 👍😁👍😁👍😁 Thankfully

I thought the music is must or good for the video, but recently I discovered that the back ground music is not good for everybody. So I started editing video without music. Next time for the typewriter video, I will make no music one.
