I love the description of the AJ's tone as "reverent" and "harp- like"; my 1937 J-35 has an extremely strong, mandolin- like treble cut when played near the bridge. Mine has the same smooth "subtle throatiness" to the bass too.

1939 Gibson AJ Wow! I actually owned that exact Guitar back in 2004. I bought it from a gentleman in Chicago off ebay auction. Had the original purple lined case to. The 2 places ( circle knobs) on top were where filled in, which is how I knew it was it. As I've wondered many times what ever became of it.
