1940 Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter at work

This machine is evidence of just how good Royal's manual typewriters had become on the eve of the second World War. The type you see here is elite, 12 CPI, and the impression on the page is just lovely. The keyboard touch is a delight.

I just bought one of these and it had a broken key. Took me many hours, e6000, and epoxy glue. I’m proud to say it works like a charm now. Very quality brand.

Very nice example with the less common full round keyboard, so much more attractive without the square shifts.

Thanks -- I wish now that I had bothered to take a "before" picture. Once all the bodywork was removed it got a careful scrubbing, and the nicotine stains that came away with the rinse were prodigious. Taking each mechanical issue at a time was quite a process, but in the end we have this lovely machine, back on the job again. Very satisfying --

Is there anyway to soften or dampen the noise. My qdl seems to rattle alot when typing.. do I need to change the platen?
