Released by Castle Films in 1942 and sold for the home market through catalogs and department stores through 1945, this "Christmas Cartoon" short features a bookended live-action segment, introducing some children who are disappointed that Santa hasn't come. Dad sets up a 16mm movie projector and screen, and some magic happens -- a 1932 Terrytoon called "Toyland" comes on screen -- and when it concludes, presents suddenly appear. As the film comes to an end, carolers appear at the window of the family home, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. The Toyland cartoon shown was directed by Frank Moser and written by Paul Terry.

Originally released in 1942, and offered in Castle's catalogs through 1945. Paul Terry's "Toyland" (1932) is the feature attraction {at the time, Castle had the exclusive "home movie" rights to several of Terry's theatrical cartoons of the 1930's and '40s}.

Nice find! I have this on 8mm which was silent with inter titles. I got the 8mm off of eBay back in 2016. After a few years, the original sound version is presented here. Yesterday, Steve Stanchfield has posted this along with the other two cartoons including “Christmas Comes But Once A Year” with the original titles and the original Paramount cartoon opening and closing variants, and a “Color Rhapsody” called “Bon Bon Parade” which was a Screen Gems TV print where half of the opening title was chopped out and the end title was also chopped out with another closing title, and it wasn’t the best print ever made since the opening and closing to “Bon Bon Parade” has been beat up to hell. “Christmas Cartoon” has been one of the most forgotten shorts by Castle Films where it isn’t included on any Public Domain VHS tapes and DVD’s for years. Now that the Castle Films Christmas shorts are now complete.

At the time, Castle charged "home movie viewers" $1.75 for the 50 foot "Headline" edition, and $5.50 for the "Complete" version. 16mm silent editions retailed for $2.75 and $8.75; for the 16mm sound edition, it was $17.50.
