Been on the old Blewett Pass road many times, nice to see what the restaurant at the summit used to look like.

Frist part is Cle Elum, and lookout mountain can be seen in the background of the road, which is the old road just before the Teanaway valley. The small cafe (just before the road sign showing distances) is at Lauderdale junction for sure, it was there into the late 60's early 70's and the road with the spinouts was defiantly the old Blewett pass highway (actually the REAL Blewett pass highway, not Swauk pass that's used now on Hiway 97) The cafe/gas station at the top of the pass was on Old Blewit and some signs of its location still exists. The city scenes at about 1:40 are Wenatchee. The farm/sawmill scenes appear to be possibly outside Ellensburg, or could be east of Wenatchee

0:50, likely Lauderdale Junction, now junction of hwy 97 and 970. 47°12'13.6"N 120°42'29.1"W. The road after that scene is probably the old Blewett highway.

Just checked the mileage from that point - now I'm quite certain that's the location. The inn shown in the sign shortly after used to be at Blewett Pass.

My aunt was born in Roslyn about 1944. Her father and his family immigrated from England about 1910 to work the coal mines in Roslyn. The father died in 1937 from black lung. Evidently, the coal mines here advertised around for experienced coal minors to migrate for Roslyn employment opportunities.

I grew up near Lake Cle Elum , on an old logging road. I barely recognize that area now, there are housing developments everywhere, lol.

Only a bit of Cle Elum at the start then a bit of Lauderdale. The remainder is the other side of Blewett Pass. I might wonder if there was a bit of Hayward Hill or Reecer Creek??

pretty sure the saw mill/log pictures are Knutson Lumber in Ellensburg. You can see the old train bed and it appears to be looking back toward Craigs hill. The road seems right also since it was Hiway 10 in those days and a main road east and west through Washington state.

Pretty sure the majority of these shots come from around Wenatchee and east. It starts out around the 97/970 Junction just east of Cle Elum, then the Lauderdale Junction on 97 and shows up (the old part of) Blewett Pass. I’m pretty sure the city is Wenatchee since it is too built up compared to Cle Elum and the mountains are wrong. I’m guessing the family shots on the farm are somewhere east of Wenatchee, around George. Still a great video, thanks for sharing!

Interesting the sign says Cle Elum Population 2230 (I think) which is about the same as today! in fact official Population today is 2115. ;)

Much of eastern Washington would have looked this way back then.

Pretty amazing video for this day. Awesome to see my home town so undeveloped. That 30s sedan is amazing. Wonder if it still exists today. Bet that young boy in the video on the bike is still alive. Be cool to see more video of this area.

The U.S. population in 1943 was 137 million. The population today is 334 million. Quite a change.
