That is one rare car. Let’s see… no synchromesh in the transmission- no hydraulic brakes. Jawohl!

This is a mid '50s beetle. The whole dash is wrong for a '43, the shape of the roof, the bonnet, fuel tank, the front trunk area, the bumpers, the brakes look to be hydraulic and the gearbox seems to have syncromesh. The speedo is modern, the engine lid is early 50's, and even the whole bodyshell is later - you can easily tell it's an oval window (1953-1957) but someone has (badly) tried to put a dividing bar on it to make it look like a split.

That would be really cool, if it were actually a '43. Unfortunately based on all of the '58 and later details I see under the hood and inside, along with the fake split dashboard applied over the the original dash, this thing is a '58-'60 that has been modified to look like a wartime split. Nothing on that car is '43 other than maybe the Notek light. Based on comments from another member, and watching til the end, this appears to be an oval window body with a later front clip including the dash or a later car with an oval roof grafted on. The rear window is clearly an oval window with a divider added to make it look like a split window as seen at 0:05 and 5:45.

We had a 57 small back window model with side stalk indicators. The split back window is period for WW2. You can see the divider lines up with the air vents. It could be genuine but.......?

If the title was changed to include the word “replica” or “tribute”, this video may not be so annoying. It’s obviously not a 43. In fact the builder of this very un-authentic re-creation hasn’t even used a pre-55 body which is a pre-requisite for even the simplest split beetle replica. There’s so many parts and panels that are incorrect that I gave up watching & went to the comments after 30 seconds to see how many others picked up on it being a fake.

I drove a 1949 VW from Nederland to Boulder CO (down the mountain) and then back up again in 1971. The return trip was very very slow. First gear most of the way and many many stops to let her cool off, but she made it. Her official name was Sparkplug. Her owner was my best friend. I don't know if he'd have loaned her to anybody else. He still has her, tucked away. I loved the way the turn signals popped out of the B-pillars, blinked a few times and then fell back into hiding. It was a 6-volt Beetle very much like yours. Thanks for sharing.

@@gerhard6105 I don't know. I was there in '71, just for the summer. My friend--Sparkplug's owner--was there for a year or so. We were hippies. I grew out of that; he didn't. He's still a hippie and still an ace mechanic, owns Intergalactic Motors, started in Nederland and moved to Steamboat Springs. When I was there, Nederland was tiny; only the main highway was paved. Half the folks in town were cowboys, the other half hippies. The two groups mix like oil and water, but we hippies were dedicated non-combatants, and lucky for us, the cowboys couldn't be bothered. They rode to town on horseback and wore their six-guns outside their pants, just like they did in 1871. If any of them were Dutch, nobody told me.

@@frankhartranft2133 wouw, what a nice story. Just like the old times. We have a village called America, here in Nederland/the Netherlands. Neder means low and land means land. It is called Nederland because there are no mountains and many parts are below sea level. Like the national airport Schiphol is 8 meter below sea level. But we are the number one water engineering country so we manage the water.

You got that right! I owned 4 early 60s bugs and a '66. The older (1958-early '64) vintage bugs were the ones I really loved as they were the "Herbie Generation." Later '64s had the "pope nose" license plate light replaced with the '64-'66 style flat license plate light. (which I call the "flat abomination") In 1965, the greenhouse was changed to my disliking. I'm speaking specifically of US export versions at least. Also, '64s with sunroofs had the smaller metal sunroof that replaced the larger softtop versions (which Herbie had). Nevertheless, at least the '64 bugs "had the equipment" and therefore technically qualify as the last of the Herbie Generation.

@@Mikefngarage it is 43 as I do have the registered document and data plate The whole front was in a bad car accident many years ago in the 90s and they cut the chassis in half and tryed to fix everything but ended using the later parts that is almost the same and weld half of the chassis on. We still have the original damaged parts in a container with other VW spare parts and few other unrestored German vehicles But the other thing is in 45 they change the fuel tank to wider one similar to this one that’s what I been told by VW museum and VW mechanics. We used to own 3 of the beetle from WW2 We still own 2 VW built in 1943 one is restored which is the gray colour which I will make videos in the future this year or next year and the second one is this one desert yellow 1943 VW needs new chassis or rebuilt it as I didn’t expect to lots of rust underneath the frame. The rear bumper was ready to fall off as it rusted bad on the bracket but yes I plan to restore it I got most of the parts to fix it and already got the correct original dash gauge in a box. The third one we used to own was a very rare unrestored 1945 VW and it had foot pedal on both side and was used to train German soldiers in WW2. This desert yellow beetle we own more than 20 years used to be restored back in the days and was stored in the shed for a very long time.

It’s definitely 43. As it’s says on the data plate. It has some 50s and 60s parts on it. But we have the correct proper parts to replace the 50 and 60s parts The dash gauge, One of the rear lights and some parts. It was registered long time ago so it was a rush putting later parts on and get her on the road for WW2 re-enactments and some Showgrounds untill we stop using it and use the other 43 beetle we are using now because this beetle has a broken boost on the rear axle and engine and gearbox will need to be taken out to fix the boost on the gearbox axle. The engine has been replaced as it’s was a 1300cc and install a rebuilt 1200cc. We do have the original 1100cc that was matching and below to this beetle but the engine is seized. There were a lot of these beetle built in 43 for the German army in WW2

It cannot be any newer than a '52, since that was the last year for the split rear window. The VW factory mostly built the Jeep-like Kubelwagen and the amphibious Schwimmwagen. Nevertheless, there were also two types of military Beetles made during WW 2 (one having four wheel drive, utilizing a second engine in the front). Less than 1,000 were produced. This looks to be the real deal with a newer motor, right tail light, and speedometer. .

@@charlesyoung7436 It can be newer if the split window is part of a kit like the dash applied over the what.s left of the original dash (which you see under the hood early in video). The door latches and stops are newer. The heater knob style and location are newer. The hand brake wouldn't have adjusters on it prior to 56, adjustments are done in the frame head. Many more reasons. Still a fun car, but if it was for sale as a 43 I'd have an issue.

This could potentially be an Afrika corps veteran though the Germans were booted out of Africa by 1943!

Tyres look like they are off a well jeep, presumably to make it look 'wartime' vintage, (it's surely not, but rather a very crude fake).

Mate, you should invest in a camera stand, I started feeling nauseous within minutes of starting to watch this video. Also, like @snaredude56, I doubt this car is genuinely a '43 ... more likely a tribute car

That is so rare, Hitler conned his people to put so much a week to buy their VW but they never saw it, he used them himself for his staff & troops

Nobody was " conned ". KDF Wagon ( Strength Thru Joy , and to be administered by that program) , was halted after the war broke out , in September 1939 ; just as civilian auto production was halted in the US as of February 1942 . The VW Chassis dedicated mostly to Kubelwagon, for the Military. Hitler had a VW Convertible, at the Berghoff , as he designed the car . His staff , or motor pool , had none . He used Armoured Mercedes 770 K exclusively.
