Too hard to do a compression test with a hand crank. Great video. You are very thorough.

Did someone put that choke plate in backwards?

Yes that Oil will hopefully free up the Piston Rings.

Are you sure the number 1 cylinder is wired to the number 1 position on the magneto cap?
@AntiqueCarsandStuff2 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I will check this…

It wasn't

Your missing the emulsion tube cone in carburetor
@AntiqueCarsandStuff Жыл бұрын
Good morning! No, it is there. It was just stuck in the upper half.

You didnt mention does that have a Governor?

Yes it does.

Any chance the magneto is grounding out someplace; either on the mag or at a switch, wire, etc. ?

I removed the mag wire just in case and I verified I’m getting spark to the plugs…

That J model FM mag can be a pain and may not be in time with the motor if not assembled correctly, IIRC. I didn't care for the condition of the carb float. It looked like one float was dented. I used to to replace them if I found one like that. Isn't there supposed to be venturi that sits between the lower carb housing and the upper? It's been 20 yrs. since I've had one apart.

I bought a farmall h , had to leave choke on all the way home, about 25 miles. found out the venturi pipe between bottom and top half was missing. I hate magneto system's on a tractor. But with utube I want to learn to work on them and time them , instead of stripping them off, and buying a battery ignition for going rate 75 dollars. and when I first did that, I didn't know the single pole ignition switch, needed, changed to 2 pole ignition switch or vice/verca if going to magneto from battery ing.

Good observation on the Venturi. Not sure. I will look into that. I think the float is ok. It seems to be working fine for now. The FM J magneto is probably the culprit. It’s producing spark but those little gears might be out of alignment. I went to check this and the cap broke…. It was very brittle. Now I have to order a new cap and reset those gears. I hope that does the trick. As always, thanks for the comments and ideas. I appreciate it.

Magnetos are a little trickier to deal with than distributors but I sure love them when they’re working correctly. Yes, I need to determine if this carb is missing a Venturi or not… but, I introduced fuel directly into the cylinders when trying to start it, so it must be something else. It should have popped.

@@AntiqueCarsandStuff can't wait to see what was the problem as I my self bought an Allis B, when I was driving semi otr. kept traveling to the auction site at least 20 plus miles away , on my 1 short day off I got sick of running back and forth and bought a 14 ft trailer to go get it , I tried so hard to get the allis B going cause I like the tractor ride home. But couldn't get suction of gas to go to the piston area. Now that I'm retired It's been under a tarp for years. hope it didn't get locked up. and mine has a mag too. I wish I had a battery ignition to put on it for trouble shooting purposes . maybe my rings are stuck. it was sitting for 10 yrs when I purchased it now another 5 yrs I 've got a cub with low compresssion readings once I changed to a new coil < it would pull start but the starter just wouldn't start it / they say sometimes those old coils seem like they work but under compression don't work.
@dirtbag79212 жыл бұрын
I think you just need more speed on starting to get the compression up. Probably due to stuck rings. How about push starting or pull starting? I've done that before and it works.
@AntiqueCarsandStuff2 жыл бұрын
I’m trying to fix the starter first, then I’ll pull it if necessary.

Isnt that center larger tube called an Emulshion tube?
