I begin today the episode of the year 1945 of this series devoted to the Second World War. We've come a long way since the first episode of 1939! Europe and the world have been at war for five years.
Erratum: at 33:36, it’s about the philosopher Simone Weil (1909-1943) who stayed in Auschwitz. It's a mistake: it was the French politician Simone Veil (1927-2017) who stayed there when she was 16. She came back alone, without her parents or her brother. This has been fixed in the full 7 hour release.
