I worked on the railroad in my early 20s and loved it. Engineers would throw us these small cans of cold water. That was 1980 and I've never tasted water that good since. Wish I would have stayed...

You can see the Parliament buildings in upper far left (I think). Sad that this railroad yard doesn't exist anymore. Thanks for this awesome video.

They couldn't figure out what to do with Lebreton Flats for decades after it was flattened along with the dreams of so many people living there. Yeah, this rail line looks a bit bleak unless you are a railfan like me but I hear the people living there had few issues. I guess the city is still trying to figure this out to this day - do we really need another main library there or a Sens stadium that much?

Geez, I'm old. I remember the roundhouse and the O'Keefe brewery. I remember the trains that used to run alongside Scott St.

I took up geocacaching recently, and have actually published a couple of caches just a couple of months ago, highlighting both roundhouses and the O'keefe brewery. I was delighted so much to see live video of these buildings, since I wasn't around then ;)

One cannot help to notice the good quality of the track alignment and the roadbed reflecting that, at that time, the maintenance was more thorough than it is now. In addition, the authorized axle loading was then well below the unacceptably high value that it now has in North America (and that was rejected in Europe). 2020/09/27.

great video. Ottawa should've never gotten rid of the rail downtown

One may well wonder if this was done intentionally in order to intentionally destroy rail travel by removing the convenience of downtown-to-downtown travel. It would not be the first time that deceit is used to promote an agenda. 2020/09/27.

So that’s what it used to be... now it’s just dirt with an O-Train line through the middle.

What song is that, playing through the video? I am trying to assemble a collection of Canadian and Train music and this is stellar!
@belter0199996 жыл бұрын
The song is Canadian Pacific by George Hamilton IV.

Great video but I would have liked some narration instead of music. I was nine when the tracks were removed. Ottawa is a rare city in that it has erased itself almost entirely to the point of being unrecognizable.
