Welcome back to Stars Of The Diamond!
Today’s featured set is the 1947-1966 Exhibit Supply Co set. This massive set of 300+ cards was produced continually from 1947 all the way to 1966 with anywhere from 32 to 64 cards made in each year! Some players had their cards made for many years while others were only featured for a single season making some of the cards extremely rare while others are very plentiful.
In this video I show my near set of cards and talk about the characteristics of the cards and the players within the set.
I love this set because it has some really significant cards that will not break the bank! For example, where else can you find a late 1940’s Jackie Robinson card for about $100? Or how about a Satchel Paige or Mickey Mantle for about the same cost?
Let me know which cards you enjoyed the most. If you collect this set and would like to discuss it farther or if you have questions just let me know in the comments below and I will respond.
I hope you enjoy my videos and if you do be sure to hit that SUBSCRIBE button and I always appreciate when you LIKE the videos as well. If you want to get notifications when I upload new videos be sure to click on the notification bell!
Happy Collecting Everybody!

Hello… I just bought 3 of these cards in an antique shop. The previous owner cut off the corners but it’s cool to have them. Thank you for this clip I learned a lot. Have a great night!

how much would these cards be worth?

It depends very heavily on the player and condition. One of the few sets where the better the players are often the MOST common as they made them for many years and lesser players were only available for a brief time.

Good video. I could be wrong, but I do believe that Mays and Mantle are actual rookies. The patch on the left arm gives it away. It was worn as an anniversary patch by the National League and American League to celebrate the leagues anniversaries in 1951. Both Mays and Mantle are pictured with that patch in those cards. However, there are two variations based on print: theres a "Made in USA" and a "Printed in USA". The only main difference in the two is that the "Made in USA" was printed from 1951 to 1953 and the other was printed in the late 50s. Theres a darker tone difference in the card stock with the earlier versions, as well. I personally prefer the "Made in USA", as those are the originally printed cards for Mantle and Mays, and could rightfully be considered a rookie. Hidden gems if you ask me.

I am catching up on some of your older videos and enjoyed this. I knew very little about the exhibits cards going in and came out knowing a lot more. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the community. Good luck with filling the remaining holes in your set.

How do you tell the exact year a specific card was made? (as opposed to a date range)
@starsofthediamond7126

You can't always tell just by looking at the card, or better put in many cases the closest you can get is a range of years. There has been an effort by many Exhibit card collectors to try to narrow the range for every player but some are ridiculously long ranges, for example the Ted Williams from the Salutation Exhibit set (no uniform #9 showing version) is known on a sheet that can be dated to 1960 so that card was made likely from the 1940's to at least 1960, which is why it is one of the easiest Exhibit cards to find. The most complete info usually comes from surviving uncut sheets as every year they would issue 32 or 64 cards (Exhibit cards were printed in sheets of 32) with new players added and others eliminated or updated.

Great channel! Question on the exhibits ? I have dozen or so of these some of which are part of the salutation series. Is there way to know what year a specific card/player was released with these and the salutations?
@starsofthediamond7126

The short answer is there isn’t an easy way to tell. The long answer is that through research and surviving records and known printing for each year it can be mapped out which cards were available which years but unless a card can be definitively pinpointed for one reason or another typically a range is all that can be established for many subjects. It makes dating tricky. The books state that the Salutations are 1939-1946 BUT there were players like Andy Pafko and Ted Williams that were still being printed with salutations concurrently with the 1947-66 Exhibits up until at least 1960 so the dates are somewhat meaningless, but they are “generally” when they shifted from the Salutation style to the non-Salutation style.

@@starsofthediamond7126 I also read that since Williams didn't retire until 1960. They kept printing more . Is that correct?

@@dmacmsu yes, that is correct. That is why his Salutation Exhibit (without uniform number showing) is THE most common card from that set, it may be the best value of any Ted Williams card out there!
