1948 Chevrolet 3100 Arrington Performance Hydrogen Power How It Works 2022 Detroit Autorama

In this video from the 2022 Detroit Autorama I set down with Mike Copeland of Arrington Performance and talk with Him about the 1948 Chevrolet 3100 that He has running on Hydrogen. Mike has a mind-blowing resume that includes working for Ford and General Motors...Mike was head of the development of the ZL1 Camaro and CSTV Cadillac. As He tells Me He had a incredible team to help with both these projects...But When General Motors had the ideas...Mike is who they came to, to make them reality....He left General Motors and was the Vice President of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering before buying Arrington Performance and heading out on His own. Arrington Performance is now at the forefront of developing a retrofit package to covert vehicles that now burn gas and diesel fuel to ones that will run on zero emission Hydrogen. I know the first thing people think of when they hear Hydrogen is the Hindenburg disaster...It's one of the first question I ask Mike in this interview...The answer will put You at ease with the safety of Hydrogen fuel. I spent 40 years making electricity. Every generator was hydrogen cooled. The oil companies have kept it from being used for fuel. Love hydrogen. Hopefully he is big enough to pursue this. I have known small time attempts at this that got phone calls suggesting they stop.

Wow Scottie, I learned a lot from this video. That is a smart smart man. I found it really incredible that Hydrogen is 56 times lighter than the air we breath. Plus Hydrogen is so light and the molecules so small that it will leak right through a regular tank. Very interesting! Thank you man.

Scotttie you're one step ahead of all those blokes who are in the cars business, i've learned quite a few things and it all brought a smile on my lips; we will be able to run those big block v8 engines on hydrogen, not emiting one ounce of polluants and yet get the performance, engine sound as if on petrol..it's a dream..can't wait till this is available.;thanks for sharing Scottie.

By God I'm a believer Scotty. Zero Emissions and still a combustion engine. Sweet. So the previous 100 years of automotive experience is not wasted. I have always been a Hydrogen fuel fanatic. This truck is beautiful and what this guy is researching has got to go mainstream fast. I'll buy it. I'll convert to it on my car. To HELL with petrol. No more middle east wars over fuel and so much more speaks loudly for this enviro friendly system. I can't wait! Scottie, the most informative video you have ever made, great job. Just a little more information for your viewers. There is a company in Great Britain called JCB, which manufactures heavy equipment. JCB has developed a diesel engine that runs on hydrogen. JCB says that electric engines are not the answer to all our environmental issues.

Beautiful paint job by the way, and the chrome really works well But what we didn’t learn from the video is the “energy cost” of obtaining hydrogen. Let’s just say it’s higher than gasoline so unless someone a can break the laws of physics it’s going to be really expensive to run. The irony is the least polluting way of getting hydrogen is using renewable electricity. You just 3x or 4x as much electricity per mile than if you just put the electricity directly into an EV..

Listen to the whole video....Mike talks about the types of Hydrogen....It will be able to made...It already is being made with solar power....Green Hydrogen..zero carbon footprint.. They are also working with making it on board the vehicle it is powering....Either leads me to believe cost of production will not be a concern...But! I already know that electricity is expensive now...and will only go up in the future...Not to mention the mess it makes...and even bigger mess it is going to make when the used batteries are leaking everywhere...

In Stapleton's video, Mike said he was running 9psi of boost through the Magnusson. That was this week. This video was a year ago and Mike said he was running 20psi of boost. Was there some kind of issue Mike had that made him drop the boost so significantly? Or something else?

I haven't heard anything....The knowledge is advancing very quickly right now...it may have gotten where 20 psi was to much Horsepower to do the kind of testing they need to do....I would think that Mike will be testing several different tunes....just a guess

I managed to get in contact with him but he doesn't seem interested in a technology that will allow that truck to get the hydrogen it needs to run directly from water. I kinda found it strange that he wasn't interested in the technology but more than likely he might have thought I was joking with him.

I'd like to show him how to slow the burn rate of hydrogen and so much more but if he doesn't wish to talk to me then I can do nothing to help him out. When I am ready I will approach all the industries that are already heading in the hydrogen direction so that I can show them there is a better way. Mr. Copeland is heading in the right direction as hydrogen is the fuel of the future as most people don't seem to understand that all vehicles that currently use fossil fuels are already running on hydrogen all we need to do is switch the source of the hydrogen and that will be that.
