What a fantastic find. I do believe that the extention shaft was for use in the old team race class, hence the spinner. I see the price on the box of 40 shillings. When you compare it with other motors of the time it's quite advanced. Nice.

Another great engine review, Mark. These PB AMCOs have a reputation as finger biters, but this one clearly knows who's boss! I'm almost tempted to get one. Well done.

Hi Mark, One of my British Favorites!.. Well, when you run it..the wind was in direction to Holland..I could smell the Amco here! They call them the " Finger Biter"..on a small prop.. it could hit you smartly...!..Short stroke design! I never had issues..and always hand start them hoe ever. They perform really wel..for sure with the power to weight ratio! Just be careful with the shafts..Till SN +/- 5000, the shaft were known to break, as the inside passage was to large.. Many shafts were in the company replaced.. but quite a few did brake.. Adrian Duncan has a lovely review over them..and he mention the inside passage diameter...so take the cover down..and you know, IF you have to be careful..or not. Such a nice complete set..box..and all the other stuff..Lovely!! Never seen the spanner either...Rare! Keep t hem smoking !! Great videos you make!! Best regards from Holland!

Great engines in their day. I remember in the early fifties seeing a control line B24 Liberator flying with four of these. Awesome to a 12 year old. The spinner, by the way, I’m sure was not an Amco supplied item as it looks identical to that supplied in the Veron control line scale series, Spitfire 22, Sea Fury and Wyvern and the Amco would be a perfect engine for all three.

I suggest reading Adrian Duncan's article on this engine. The Anchor versions had several faults as you will read.

That is a really sweet looking engine needs to go on a low or shoulder wing vintage with that spinner 😊

Sounds new - has it been run much? Glove's a good idea, as I recall they had a reputation as a finger-biter.

Not sure how much run time it has had, but dosen't apeat to have been worked hard, it's in lovely condition

It did run well, but I think you ran it a bit longer than you should. I do have one concern, that is the type of fuel you are running all these larger engines on. D200, which has an ignition improver in it & less oil. In 1960 all we had was Keil Kraft Diesel fuel & I don't know what they had in 1949. You also use D100 for the small engines of under 1cc. This fuel has more oil in it. So I would suggest a bit more research work about the fuels you are using, may be a good idea. From memory, the KK fuel did contain have a tiny amount of fuel improver, beyond that I remember very little. Only that for control line you needed at least on ball bearing in your engine, or the money to keep replacing it with a new engine. Which was why we left control line flying & moved to free flight as soon as we could travel further.

The D2000 fuel is recomended for engines over 1.5cc, by the PAW engine manufactures, who know oversee the production of Modeltechnics diesel, which has 24% oil, which is fine for this type of running. The D1000 has slightly more oil, 28%, which I always use for new engines and those under 1.5cc. I personally think its all fine, but thanks for the comment
