Beginning a Restoration on 1949 Dumont “Stratford” TV. This set uses a 15” CRT and 2 Chassis’s.
PART 1:
Removing and inspecting the 2 Heavy Chassis’s.

That is indeed an incredible piece of vintage television technology. I don't think the folks at Dumont expected anything more than 7 or 8 years use out of this TV . Planned obsolescence. Nothing as short as smartphone tech ,which gets updated every 18 months.

My RA-103 weighs a ton....I can't imagine how much this one weighs.

I see it has two high voltage rectifiers. One must be for the focus?

It Actually has 2 1B3 HV Rectifiers. Dumont was over engineered.

@@CreekviewAcres I wonder if the CRT is coated or if that set uses a high voltage doorknob capacitor. I have a Stromberg Carlson TV12 (unrestored) which is basically a Dumont RA103 chassis. I grew up through the 1950s and I remember TV repair guys preferring to not work on Dumont TVs because they were over engineered. I am looking forward to your progress on your Dumont. Gary
